    Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is on the lookout for 2 competent fire safety inspectors to fill crucial roles. One of these inspectors will also serve as a Building Safety Regulator. This recruitment drive aims to build a pool of qualified candidates to manage workforce changes in the next year. Immediate fulfillment is required for the inspector position, while the Building Safety regulator role is set for August 2024.

    As a Business Fire Safety Inspector, your responsibilities will include supervising and mentoring development advisors and inspectors, conducting consultations and audits of high-risk business premises, and determining enforcement actions to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations. Your support will be integral to Surrey Fire and Rescue's Risk Based Inspection Programme (RBIP) objectives, enhancing safety for buildings and occupants through education and enforcement.

    This role will be stationed at one of three Surrey locations:

    • Walton-upon-Thames
    • Leatherhead
    • Farnham

    Please note that placement is subject to location at the time of appointment.

    You will work alongside a seasoned team comprising both operational and civilian backgrounds. Specialized technical knowledge in fire safety, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) aligned with the Competency Framework, and registration on the Contextualised Auditors Register (CAR) overseen by a Fire Safety Manager are requirements to excel in this role.

    Your duties will involve engaging with partners and business owners to address fire safety matters compliantly and educating them on related risks, fostering mutual understanding. Additionally, you will lead efforts to ensure adherence to fire safety regulations and conduct training for businesses and fire teams.

    Requirements for Consideration:

    • Experience in regulating or enforcing fire safety legislation
    • Health and Safety qualifications and/or experience
    • Prior involvement in fire safety activities
    • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
    • Proficient in written communication and report drafting
    • Leadership and management abilities to oversee Advisors or Business Education Officers
    • Hold a Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety
