    Job summary

    Are you a teamplayer with excellent interpersonal communication skills looking to developyour skills within safeguarding? If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen foran experienced Nurse to take on the role as Safeguarding Nurse (Band 6) workingwithin our established Safeguarding Team. The postholder will work hoursper week, over 5 days Monday to Friday, within the Safeguarding Adults Team.

    This is avaried & rewarding role for motivated and hard-working individuals who candemonstrate passion and commitment to safeguarding. You will assist the NamedNurse Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Adult Advisors to deliver proactivesafeguarding services, contributing to the operational and strategicdevelopment of safeguarding adults across the organisation, ensuring that all adultsat risk of harm are effectively safeguarded. The role encompasses promoting apositive culture of safeguarding to ensure it is part of everyday practice.

    To succeed youwill need to be flexible and assertive & be able to demonstrate a thoroughunderstanding of safeguarding issues within a busy acute hospital, communitysetting & the wider health economy.

    Main duties of the job

    This post holder will be required to work across all Trust sites and partner agency sites, including Sunderland Royal Hospital, South Tyneside District Hospital, and office base at Durham Road Childrens Centre.

    As a Safeguarding Nurse at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT) you will:

  • Hold a supportive role in promoting good professional safeguarding practice within the Safeguarding Team at STSFT.
  • Be a highly visible Safeguarding Nurse and support the Safeguarding Adult Advisor and Named Nurse Safeguarding Adults (and wider safeguarding team across STSFT) in providing advice and support regarding safeguarding within the Trust.
  • Support the delivery of training and supervision.
  • Support the Safeguarding Advisors in ensuring all staff have access to safeguarding training and supervision appropriate to their role, enabling the organisation to fulfil its statutory responsibilities for training.
  • Support the Safeguarding Advisor / Named Nurses and other members of the team with statutory, voluntary, and healthcare agencies groups such as CARM, MARAC, MATAC, MAPPA, PREVENT and MSET.
  • Support with collection and collating of safeguarding audit data.
  • Participate in regular audits to ensure assurance can be given that care delivery from a safeguarding perspective adheres to STSFT policies and procedures as well as national legislation and statutory guidance.

    Job responsibilities

  • Support the Safeguarding Advisor / Named Nurses and other members of the team with statutory, voluntary, and healthcare agencies groups such as MARAC, MATAC, MAPPA, PREVENT and MSET.
  • Support the MCA/DoLS Advisor with Mental Capacity Assessment (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) advice and support to STSFT staff.

    Skills and Knowledge

    Essential

  • Thorough understanding of contemporary issues appropriate to the post
  • Evidence of relevant continuous professional development
  • Knowledge of current professional and Clinical Governance issues
  • Knowledge of and participation in research and/or clinical audit
  • Evidence of being up to date with current issues and research in specialist area
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of Legislation and National
  • Guidelines that drives safeguarding adult policy and practice
  • Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required
  • Able to work without supervision
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft office packages
  • Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships and interpersonal dynamics

  • Qualifications

    Essential

  • Current NMC registration (Level 1 adult nurse, children, mental health, Learning Disability)
  • Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject or evidence of currently working towards this (UK equivalent).
  • Evidence of further study in safeguarding adults
  • Mentor certificate/Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Desirable

  • Management and leadership training

  • Relevant post registration experience including participation in adult safeguarding procedures
