In 2022 I decided to throw myself into a career change, I had owned and run a successful retail store selling electronic cigarettes since 2013. I believe that the market in that sector over the coming years will change and therefore wanted to focus on my other passion, which is development and coding.

I was proactive in researching my next career move by using tools such as 16 personalities to find the perfect match for me. It was clear working in technology was the best fit. I was resourceful and spent my free time coding on free code camp and YouTube and loved seeing how languages tied together and created functions we use every day. I researched roles within development and saw how I wanted to progress, working up to senior positions such as lead and principal developer.

Driven by my determination to change industries I enrolled, funded, and started a 12-week coding and development boot camp so I could improve the skills required to become a developer. Having run my own business I believe that I would be an asset to many organisations, commercially and mentally. Having been highly successful in the course I am looking for an opportunity where I can continue to learn and grow.

Junior Developer Code Nation June 2022 – August 2022 I have completed the 12-week Code Nation masters coding and development course (M39 cohort) with over 480 hours of coding experience. While on the course I have learned different key skills and languages including fundamental coding principles using JavaScript, core client-side web technologies - HTML & CSS, modern JavaScript UI libraries - React.js, server-side programming using JavaScript/Node.js and NPM libraries, working with databases such as MySQL and MongoDB, Test Driven Development using Jest, full stack web application development, working in an Agile environment with GitHub, Miro & Trello, lifecycle of a technical project and development/technical responsibilities to project managers/client-services. For the final project with Code Nation I applied a number of features for my full stack MERN application, including but not limited to; a gated portal with sign up/log in/log out functions, creation of a database using MongoDB with authentication where all user information is securely stored, perform all CRUD functions (create, read, update & delete) on the database, multiple pages using react router DOM, used multiple APIs for a route planner, weather checker and to generate information as well as multiple reusable components. I adapted quickly to working in an agile environment using Trello and Miro as part of the application lifecycle and using GitHub to work collaboratively while coding. From inception to completion, including hosting, I have worked extremely well in all stages of development.
