About Charlotte Todd:

My name is Charlotte and I am a recent MSc Biomedical Sciences graduate from the University of Salford. I am a determined and highly motivated with a strong passion for advancing healthcare through research and innovation. Driven by a desire to contribute my scientific knowledge, critical thinking abilities, and laboratory expertise to the field of biomedical research, I aim to excel in dynamic research environments and contribute to cutting-edge biomedical advancements.

I have recently submitted my dissertation for MSc, focusing on a master's thesis that explores CARP-1 pathways and glucocorticoid receptor crosstalk in myeloid leukemia. My work involved administering varying concentrations of dexamethasone and CARP-1 mimetics to cultured K562 cells, utilizing molecular techniques such as SDS-PAGE, QRT-PCR, MTT assays, and FACS/flow cytometry to monitor cell death and cell cycle progression. I have compiled my findings into a comprehensive dissertation and presented my research to peers and organizations.

My academic journey includes a BSc in Biomedical Sciences (Hons) from The University of Manchester, where I graduated with a 2:1. During my undergraduate studies, I conducted a final year project investigating the role of granzyme A cleaved fragments of the tau protein in Alzheimer’s disease. This project involved advanced molecular biology techniques such as DNA and protein purification, immunoblotting, and transfection of DNA fragments into HEK293 cells. I also completed a dissertation analyzing the role of microglial-expressed genes in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis, synthesizing findings from genome-wide-association studies.

In addition to my academic achievements, I possess a wide range of laboratory skills, including q-PCR, CRISPR/Cas9, western blotting, ELISA, cell culture, flow cytometry, and data analysis using Prism and SPSS. My strong communication skills have been honed through various professional practice and previous management roles in customer service. This has gained me strong interpersonal skills which apply in any industry.

Passionate about communicating science and contributing to biomedical research, I am eager to apply my skills and knowledge to advance healthcare and make meaningful contributions to the field.
