About Chris Sumner:

I am a multi-skilled, experienced, reliable, hard-working and confident individual specialising in Data-Driven Analytical and Developer roles. Having worked within the data field for over 14 years, I am
completely comfortable in using both Excel and SQL Server Management Studio to manipulate and showcase data. I use SQL on a near-enough daily basis and am comfortable putting scripts, jobs, views and stored procedures together, as well as automating processes and undertaking the queries themselves. Within the SQL Stack, I also have experience of using both SQL Server Reporting Services, to create bespoke reports and SQL Server Integration Services to create and test packages to automate regular processes.

I am competent with the Microsoft Office suite of products, and also have strong experience in creating dashboards using software such as Power BI and Dundas, as well as some experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS. I have also obtained experience in creating new applications by using Microsoft Power
Apps, using SharePoint for document storage and data warehousing and Power Automate to automate various tasks within the app, including creating CSV files of available tables using JSON.
Within my most recent role as a Power BI Analyst, I have built relationships with a number of key colleagues and stakeholders. I have been instrumental in creating numerous dashboards for different areas of the firm, which are updated automatically and give the user the option to drill down and view figures over time. In addition to this, whilst working within the NHS I have worked with other NHS trusts to help
develop processes and iron out any issues, as well as visiting them to analyse their data processing procedures and share ideas.

Also, whilst in the BI Developer role with the NHS, I liaised successfully with the finance team with regards to developing a new ‘Cash Collection’ and ‘Credit Card Transaction’ form, based within Dundas
dashboard software, to ensure that data is easily recorded and viewed. I have been sure to keep the finance team informed along all aspects of the process and have listened intently to the feedback
received, acting on it by providing further insight or by fixing issues that have arisen within the data or the forms.

In my most recent role, I have liaised with the management team and purchasing team within the IT Department to obtain requirements to build a new Ordering System app within Microsoft Power Apps
to replace a Microsoft Access-based system. I have had good feedback when showing a demo of the app, and have used SharePoint to store documents and as a Data Warehouse to store all of the records created within the app. I have also implemented security measures within SharePoint to ensure that the correct individuals have access and also at app-level so that management are the only team allowed to approve new orders.

Considering that I have a good few years of experience as both an analyst and a developer, I find it beneficial to have both a grasp of the data itself and the work that goes on behind it. When presenting
information, I believe that it is important to gauge the requirements of the target audience and present to them the interesting and clear points of your analysis. I have also undertaken ad-hoc reporting requests, ensuring that I ask the end-user how they would like their data presented, use the most appropriate graphs and cover the key facts.
I also ensure that when I send the report/dashboard that I include a small summary as to what is included within the report and if there is anything to look out for, as although the report would cover the key facts, it’s important to be clear as to what extra information the report is presenting to the end user if it is not covered clearly initially.

I am more than comfortable working with large data sets, manipulating and benchmarking where necessary and presenting the required data in a clear and concise manner. I have undertaken processes in the past such as contract monitoring, reviewing referrals data, creating key performance indicator
dashboards, creating applications and providing datasets for research purposes along with Data Dictionaries. As mentioned previously, I ensure that the data I present is clear to non-technical
audiences and tells a clear story.

Within the previous roles I have held with other employers, I have also managed to turn around projects by simplifying processes and therefore received good feedback from clients for doing so. I pride myself on giving a good service and performing to the best of my ability, and considering the problem-solving
mind-set that I thrive on, I strive to improve and streamline processes and projects that I am involved with should the opportunities arise.
