Francesca Fotheringham

I am a Pupil Support Assistant with a rich academic background and diverse professional experience, aspiring to train as an educational psychologist. Holding a PhD in Psychology from the University of St Andrews, my research focused on the development of mixed emotional understanding in children. My career includes roles such as Associate Tutor at the University of Glasgow and Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, where I developed and evaluated interventions for neurodivergent students. My expertise spans supporting young people with additional needs, conducting research on wellbeing and behavioral issues, and creating inclusive educational environments. Passionate about applying evidence-based practices, I am committed to empowering children and young people, promoting mental health and well-being, and advancing educational equity.

I am a dedicated Pupil Support Assistant at Kirkcaldy High School, where I assist young people with additional support needs and neurodiversity. My academic journey includes a PhD in Psychology from the University of St Andrews, with research on children's emotional development. Professionally, I have served as an Associate Tutor at the University of Glasgow, supervising MSc projects on wellbeing and autism, and as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, leading the development of a peer support toolkit for neurodivergent students. I hold a PhD in Psychology from the University of St Andrews (2017-2021), where my research focused on the development of mixed emotional understanding in children aged 4-13. My doctoral studies involved extensive data collection and analysis, working closely with statisticians to develop innovative methods for analyzing non-parametric data. Prior to my PhD, I earned a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with a 2:1 from Chichester University (2013-2016). During my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, I developed a strong foundation in psychological theories, research methodologies, and practical applications, which I have since applied in various academic and professional settings.
