About Jon Quinn:
I am a Delta-qualified ESOL and EAP professional teacher with 11 years of classroom experience. I have recently worked on a pre-sessional course in the U.K. and have also built and run multiple EAP courses using authentic and self-created materials, as well as teaching study skills, IELTS preparation, and essay writing. I have taken on the role of Course Director in a language school, run multiple CPD sessions, and taught in a wide range of educational and cultural environments. I believe I have the experience, skillset, professionalism, and enthusiasm to be an asset in any educational environment.
Experience
During my 11 years in the classroom, I have gained experience in virtually all areas of ELT, from face-to-face, online and hybrid teaching; teaching adults and young learners; using a range of approaches (including CLT, direct method, flipped learning); exam preparation; and teaching a range of levels and areas of GE and ESP. In addition to working in different cultural contexts and countries, this range of experience allows me to quickly adapt to new teaching contexts.
Education
- Cambridge Delta (including EAP specialism in module 3)
I completed the Delta in 2020, including achieving a pass with merit for the practical component (Module 2: Developing Professional Practice), showing evidence of a high standard of classroom practice. I studied for the Module One exam (Understanding Language, Methodology, and Resources for Teaching) independently, which allowed me to build a theoretical knowledge base in language acquisition, applied linguistics, and ELT methodology, among others. I specialised in EAP for Module 3 (Extended Assignment), during which I built a course for learners in an HE context based on background reading into academic discourses and approaches in EAP.
- Academic Achievement (MA Distinction; BA first class honours; AHRC scholarship award winner)
In addition to being awarded a pass with distinction for my M.A., I achieved First Class Honours in my B.A. in English & Film and Media Studies. I was also the only student in my cohort to win a 12,000GBP AHRC scholarship for my M.A. in Film Studies at The University of East Anglia. This shows a high level of proven research, critical thinking, and academic writing skills, which allows me to tutor my students with assurance and confidence, grounded in my achievement in degree and post-graduate studies.
