About Freya Britt:
I am a highly empathetic, motivated individual who is looking for a new career, still specializing in the care profession. I studied for my GCSE'S at Herne Bay High School, receiving 9 GCSES including Maths, English Language, English Literature, Double Science and a level 2 diploma in Health and Social Care. After this, I studied for a BTEC National Extended Diploma at St Anselm's Catholic 6th Form. I am passionate about this subject and was awarded D*D*D*.
I began my career in care when I volunteered at Strode Park Foundation, a charity which specializes in supporting those with physical disabilities and cognitive impairments. I volunteered alongside the allied health care professional's department. After this, between 2023-2024, I worked as a mental health support worker at the Wimbledon residential home in Herne Bay. I cared and supported those experiencing mental illnesses. My role was varied and everyday was different. I assisted residents with personal care, carried out vital measurements, helped to de-escalated those in distress, observed and recorded notes and most importantly provided compassion, dignity and respect.
Last year, I experienced a psychotic episode due to Bipolar Disorder. I always keep a positive mindset and view this experience as a positive one, not a negative. I learnt a lot more about mental illness and it increased my understanding, empathy and compassion for others experiencing similar challenges. I would love to use my empathy, commitment, experience in care and skills to show others that you can live a healthy, meaningful life despite having a mental illness.
In my spare time, I enjoy to keep a healthy mind and body and take a holistic approach to my health and well-being. I also help my family to care for a family member who has Lewy Body dementia. Even though this has its challenges, I would do anything to ensure they are cared for with kindness, compassion and dignity.
Experience
I began my career when I was eighteen by volunteering at Strode Park Foundation in the main house, alongside the allied health care professionals. I assisted occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists. I carried out a variety of tasks, such as organizing equipment, shadowing physio and occupational therapy sessions and helping to create sensory and exercise groups.
I then started to work as a mental health support worker at the Wimbledon Residential Home in Herne Bay. I supported residents experiencing mental illnesses by assisting with personal care, taking vital measurements, observing and documenting notes and de-escalating those in distress. I carried out a range of training components including First Aid, Managing Challenging Behaviour, Parkinson's Disease, Understanding Learning Disabilities and Autism and Data Protection.
