About Jiawei Dong:

A culturally informed and creatively driven bilingual with a strong academic background in Fine Arts and Cultural & Creative Industries Management. Experienced in live event production, arts marketing, and cross-disciplinary design, with hands-on roles at venues such as Dada Bar (indie music venue) and Qingdao Grand Theatre. Demonstrates a solid understanding of both independent and institutional cultural operations, from branding and visual design to performance coordination and audience development. Proficient in managing creative teams, executing promotional strategies, and delivering impactful visual content across platforms.

Experience

I have a multidisciplinary background in event production, cultural operations, and creative design, with a strong focus on live music, performing arts, and visual culture. From 2023 to 2024, I was responsible for the full-year performance schedule at Dada Bar in Beijing, where I independently handled artist coordination, contract negotiation, performance filing, and on-site execution, working closely with technical crews and promotional teams to ensure each event ran smoothly from planning to settlement.

Previously, I worked as an assistant producer for a dance drama at Qingdao Grand Theatre, contributing to rehearsal planning, soundtrack editing, and stage scheduling, as well as promotional content creation. I also gained experience in museum operations during my internship at BY ART MATTERS, where I focused on ticketing data analysis, audience development, and membership planning.

In addition to event work, I have a strong foundation in graphic design, having created album covers for both local and international clients, including Beijing-based metal bands and U.S. design studios. I also co-founded IAN72, a tattoo and piercing studio in Beijing, where I led sales, artist management, and coordinated collaborations with exhibitions and performance organizers.

I’m proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and video editing tools, with the ability to produce visually engaging content across platforms. I value both creativity and precision, and I thrive in collaborative environments that require strong organization, communication, and a balance between artistic vision and operational execution. I’m fluent in Mandarin Chinese and have experience producing bilingual content across various creative formats.

Education

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, where I developed a strong foundation in visual arts, illustration, and art history. My undergraduate studies also included interdisciplinary coursework in British and American media culture, new media marketing, and traditional Chinese visual forms, which broadened my creative perspective and deepened my understanding of visual communication across cultural contexts. I graduated with a GPA of 80.5/100.

Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Creative and Cultural Industries Management at the University of Sheffield, where I am expanding my knowledge of cultural marketing, music consultancy, festival and event management, and museum and heritage site operations. This program allows me to integrate my creative background with strategic and operational skills in the cultural sector, preparing me for roles that bridge the gap between artistic creation and cultural business management.
