Jonas Rüegg

I'm a final year engineering student at the University of Edinburgh; and have completed several months of engineering placements, in areas including Wind Power, Rail, and Fire. I work well as part of a team, I enjoy problem solving and I have a lot of experience using Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint, as well as some ability to code using Matlab, Python and VBA. I am fluent in English and have basic conversational German and Swiss German (AS-level equivalent)

Civil Engineering Placements, Tony Gee, Summer 2019, 2021, 2022 - Glasgow/London

This involved preforming and checked structural hand calculations for bridges and wind turbine bases; and doing site visits and organising project meetings. I also used VBA and Excel to create a detailed reinforcements coordinate calculator, and a carbon calculator for wind turbine bases. During the final week, I had the opportunity to go on several site visits.

Fire Engineering Placement Student, Arup. May to July 2022 – Edinburgh.

I updated an existing fire strategy report and was responsible for liaising with the client, and took part in wider team meetings. I also taught myself the basics of python and used this to script mathematical functions for experimental fires.

Civil Engineering MEng, The University of Edinburgh. Sept 2018 to July 2023.

I am currently in my fifth and final year with a 2.1 degree average. I particularly enjoy the strong emphasis on problem solving, group work and mathematics in my degree.
