About Sheena Sikka:
I am an experienced Acute and General Internal Medicine Consultant working at University College London Hospital (UCLH). I am responsible for a 56 bed Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) caring for medical patients with a variety of acute illnesses with an aim to early discharge to outpatient facilities. My responsibilities include:
- Clinical Lead of Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), established the setup of a 30 bed unit providing urgent assessment, rapid diagnostics and treatment for patients, whilst delivering high quality care with admission avoidance.
- Responsible for running our Ambulatory Care clinics overseeing a multitude of doctors reviewing patients referred from General Practitioners (GP) and the Emergency Department. Providing on the day assessment and general medical support and advice to GP’s in the community.
- Chairperson of weekly Clinical Governance meetings within Acute Medicine, reviewing quality of patient care, complaints, continually developing strategies and methods to improve the department’s delivery of patient care.
- Senior Reviewer at multi-disciplinary Morbidity & Mortality meetings, overseeing any deaths which occur on the AMU, ensuring that high quality and appropriate care was delivered and ensuring learnings and improvements from these reviews are implemented.
- Responsible for leading numerous Quality Improvement projects within the department, focusing on improving patient safety and care.
Subspecialised in Medical Education with a Post Graduate Diploma from the University of Edinburgh. Current Training Program Director for Foundation Year 2 doctors, responsible for implementing Junior Doctor training at UCLH as instructed by Health Education England.
- Responsible for the delivery of a curriculum-mapped teaching program, supporting trainees with pastoral concerns and complete yearly appraisals to aid revalidation.
- Supervise and oversee Junior Doctor training within AMU, ensuring they meet their required competencies, complete assessments and progress appropriately whilst training.
Simulation Training Facilitator delivering training for healthcare professionals within a high-fidelity Simulation Suite, developing knowledge, clinical skills and teamworking.
