Yian Smith

My name is Yian Smith and I am a Condition Monitoring Engineer currently based in the UK. 

In early 2024 I am intending to travel South East Asia and then potentially seek employment in Australia. 

I have been in my current role for five years and I am employed as a Multi skilled Condition Based Monitoring Engineer/ Lubrication Technician. I have experience and qualifications in different aspects of Reliability Engineering, including VA1/ VA2 Vibration Analysis, ICML 1 Lubrication, Ultrasound, Thermal Imaging, Balancing and Alignment. 

 As a mobile engineer, I have had exposure to a variety of different plants and machinery in a number of industries including oil and gas, food and beverage, agriculture and manufacturing and mining. I am responsible for the collection and first pass analysis of vibration data and I am proficient in all aspects of lubrication and data collection. I am competent at machine laser alignment and insitu fan balancing. I have an understanding of vibration data analysis and fault diagnosis using machine sentry software and I am always looking to expand this knowledge further. 

In my role as Lubrication Technician, I have been responsible for the implementation of full plant lubrication contracts, including general greasing and gearbox oil changes, packing and setting bearings, seal pots, oil sampling and wear particle analysis. I also have experience in the installation of hydraulic oil systems including pipe fitting and bending.  

As a CBM Engineer, I am responsible for implementation of data collection contracts, data analysis, fault diagnosis and producing customer reports. In addition can implement planned machine laser alignments and in situ fan balancing.  

I am a competent mechanic with industrial experience installing electric motors, gearboxes and pumps. I also have motor mechanics experience including full engine rebuilds of motorcycles and cars. 

As part of my role, I have to liaise with the client, colleagues from my company and those on site from other companies and am confident to communicate with all levels of any organisation. 

I am keen and eager to learn and am now looking for an opportunity to expand my knowledge and develop myself and my career.
