    Are you an experienced finance professional looking for a new challenge in local government? We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Chief Accountant to join a senior finance management team in Barnet.

    As the Chief Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of our council and ensuring the effective delivery of our corporate plan and financial strategy.


    Key Responsibilities:
    Develop and implement the financial strategy, ensuring sustainability over the medium term.
    Lead the financial management of the council's capital programme, including robust evaluation of proposals and effective project monitoring.
    Advise on investment and funding strategies, managing investment risk and performance.
    Coordinate the annual closure of the council's and Pension Fund's accounts in consultation with the senior finance leadership team.
    Interpret accounting standards and regulations, ensuring compliance with professional codes of practice and relevant legislation

    Requirements:
    Strategic management experience in a large public sector organisation, preferably local government.
    Significant experience managing technical and financial accounting issues related to public sector funding arrangements.
    Knowledge of major issues facing local government and understanding of national policy context.
    Proven ability to drive effective performance management within an organisation.
    Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
    Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence senior management and peers.
