    Job summary

    We are seeking enthusiastic speech and language therapists to join our friendly and supportive team, where collaborative working in an important part of the role.

    We have vacancies in our local specialist and base provisions, in addition to our mainstream settings.

    This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team providing innovative therapy interventions following evidence-based practise and an embedded model of therapy in order to best support the pupils needs.

    We can offer an all-year full time contract or a term time plus 2-4 weeks pro rata contract.

    We welcome applications from those wishing to work full or part time.

    Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist Education, Band 5 and Newly Qualified Band 5,Full Time Equivalent or the option of Term Time Only

    Location: London Borough of Sutton

    £31, - £41, (FTE) including High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) (Updated January 2024)

    Cognus Therapies provides a robust supervision framework with all posts receiving Managerial and Clinical Supervision. Regular time is allocated for Professional Development.

    Applicants must have a current registration with HCPC to apply for this vacancy. Own transport an advantage but not essential.

    Main duties of the job

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team ofspeech and language therapists and occupational therapists
  • Have the opportunity to work in schools,colleges, bases and / or specialist provisions across the London Borough ofSutton
  • Work with children and young people aged 4 to25 years (often working within a specific age range, Primary
  • Support local schools / settings to supportchildren and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN
  • Work with children and young people who havea range of special educational needs ( Autism, Hearing Impairment,Developmental Language Disorder, Down Syndrome, PMLD, MLD, SLCN
  • Manage own caseload with support, to ensureintended outcomes are delivered within agreed service standards
  • Raise awareness of SLCN within the LondonBorough of Sutton

    Cognus Therapies are a thriving multidisciplinary team of speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, teachers, practitioners and therapy assistants who support children and young people aged 4 25 years in mainstream schools, colleges, and specialist settings within the London Borough of Sutton and surrounding boroughs. We work with children and young people with a variety of special educational needs, Autism, Hearing Impairment, Down Syndrome, Developmental Language Disorder, PMLD, MLD and many more and encourage all our therapists to gain experience and expertise across a range of specialisms.

    We are commissioned by London Borough of Sutton, to provide education services to mainstream schools and specialist education providers in Sutton. We deliver a wide range of services from Admissions and Music, to SEND and Therapies to pursue excellence in education settings and improve the lives of children, young people, and families.

    Job responsibilities

    All applicants must holdcurrent registrations with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) andbe a member of The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists(RCSLT).

    PRINCIPALACCOUNTABILITIES:

    To personally undertake a caseload toinclude:

    Visitingchildren and young people at their educational setting

    Completingassessments with children and young people

    Deliveringtherapy programmes to individuals or small groups

    Offeringadvice and support to parents / carers and teaching staff

    Maintainingall records to a high standard

    Specific Duties:

    Provideadvice and support to school staff

    Usescreening and assessment tools (formal and informal assessments)

    Prioritisenew referrals, with support

    Completecase histories to gather relevant information

    Writereports based on assessment information

    Makeonward referrals, with support

    Liaisewith all professionals involved

    Liaisewith parents / carers and school staff to work collaboratively

    Contributeto professional advice regarding statutory assessments (Education, Health andCare Needs Assessments)

    Contributeto professional advice for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) annualreviews

    Completeduties for both London Borough of Sutton and out of borough (when requested)

    Monitorand record the child or young persons progress towards their outcomes andtargets

    Attendteam meetings

    Attendclinical supervision

    Attend managerialsupervision

    Training and Development Responsibility:

    PromoteEvidence Based Practise and embed this into professional activities, delivery of therapy

    Embedlegislative change and key developments with support from the team

    Participatein clinical audits, service development activities and research as and whenrequired

    Engagein CPD activities

    Complywith the Cognus Limited mandatory training requirements

    Plan,deliver and evaluate training sessions for educational provisions, with support

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Relevant qualifications including registration with HCPC and RCSLT
  • Experience

    Desirable

  • Experience of working in educational settings
  • Experience as a paediatric speech and language therapist
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities

    Essential

  • Knowledge of relevant assessment tools and therapy interventions
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent ICT skills, using spreadsheets and recording notes electronically
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with other professionals
  • Adherence to RCSLT and HCPC policies and procedures
