Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated person to join a team of engineers, physicists and dosimetrists in the provision of Radiotherapy Physics services. The post holder will work as part of a wider team of scientists, technologists and dosimetrists to support the maintenance of the treatment and imaging units, maintenance of scientific equipment and ensure patient pathways are maintained efficiently.

Main duties of the job
The role is to provide a high level of engineering technical support, which is typically beyond first line maintenance level, to a busy Radiotherapy department. There is also a requirement to undertake all Planned Maintenance activities. The successful applicant will work closely with members of the physics team to perform Quality Assurance checks of the Linear Accelerators. A significant aspect of the role is to undertake research and development projects.
Applicants should be multi-skilled with a primary background in electronic/electrical engineering, with experience in exercising judgement to determine and resolve the causes of faults in high-capital, highly complex patient-critical medical devices and systems, applying suitable fault-finding techniques to diagnose problems, including those beyond the scope of normal first-line maintenance.Experience in servicing and repairing Linear Accelerators, kV and MV Imaging systems and patient support couches is essential.Experience of Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerators would be desirable.Familiarity in performing Quality Assurance checks on Linear Accelerators would also be desirable.
The job requires a high degree of manual dexterity and the ability to use fine tools for accurate adjustment or assembly of equipment. The Radiotherapy Physics Section undertakes clinically-based Research and Development Projects within Radiotherapy and the successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to the various project teams.
