    Role

    This position is part of the NERC-funded project "Adaptive introgression in the Anthropocene", the main aim of which is to understand the prevalence and impact of gene flow between native and non-native flowering plant species in the British Isles making use of newly generated genome assemblies and large whole genome resequence datasets. The project involves working with other members of the Dasmahapatra group and collaborators Chris Thomas (University of York), Pete Hollingsworth and Markus Ruhsam (Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh), Alex Twyford and Simon Martin (University of Edinburgh), Mark Blaxter (Wellcome Sanger Institute) and Kevin Walker (Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland). The proposed start date is around August 2024.

    Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

    We are looking for a person with advanced bioinformatics skills, including high levels of competency in genome analysis using data from high-throughput sequencing and population genomics.

  • A PhD in a relevant area
  • Enthusiasm to understand evolutionary change and its implications in the Anthropocene
  • Strong bioinformatics skills, particularly for the analysis of genomic data (Illumina and other high-throughput sequencing platforms)
  • Experience of carrying out population genomic analyses
  • Comfortable with using R and Python, working on Linux, and using high performance compute clusters
