    Job summary

    Anexciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Occupational TherapyAssistant inAdultSocial Care at Swindon Borough Council. You will be part of a busy, supportivemultiskilled team of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants,Hearing andVisionpractitioners, Social Workers and Assistant Care Managers.

    Asa team we provide support to vulnerable adults who may have a variety ofphysical orsensoryimpairments, learning disability or mental health conditions. Whilst alsoconsideringtheneeds of carers within a community setting.

    Main duties of the job

    Youwill use your effective communication skills to undertake strength-based occupationaltherapypractice with the aim of supporting our clients to live as independently aspossibleinthe community by providing where appropriate suitable equipment, advice andminor

    Job responsibilities

    Key Accountabilities

    To undertakeoccupational therapy assessments with adults with disabilities. To plan for the provision of support and/orservices with adults in order to assist them meet their outcomes and to live asindependently as possible fulfilling their individual potential. This couldinclude people with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Physical and Mental Healthdisabilities.

    To support carers to continue in their role.

    To deliver this service in accordance with the statutoryresponsibilities as set out within social care and housing legislation andSwindon Borough Council policies and procedures.

    Undertake strengths based occupational therapy assessments usingyour judgement to adapt your approach to the individual needs of the person.

    To manage a busy caseload of non-complex cases, or where casesbecome complex seek appropriate guidance from Occupational Therapy colleagues.

    Be able to prioritise work according to the individuals andservice needs.

    To recognise when interventions are more complex and to refer theperson to an Occupational Therapist.

    Gather sufficient information about referred adults in order to beable to accurately assess their needs against duties under the Care Act andhousing legislation.

    Plan for the provision of support and/or services such asequipment and minor adaptations, focusing on adults undertaking occupations andencouraging independence.

    Have an awareness of risk management and seek support asappropriate.

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent Qualification/compensatory experience.
