As a Finning Field Engineer you willrespond to customer's Marine repair and service requests. You willbe responsible for diagnosing and providing comprehensive detailabout the nature the problem to the customer and Finning to createa quote as per the request of the customer within a cost and timeeffective manner.

JobDescription:

Workingwithin Finning's industry leading field service department, and forthe largest CAT dealer in the UK and Ireland, you will be at theforefront of the companies on site diagnostic and repaircapabilities for Caterpillarproducts.

Yourrole will be to execute the maintenance, overhaul, troubleshooting,repair, testing and commissioning (as the case may be) ofCaterpillar and MaK engines, packages and systems installed invessels.

MajorJobFunctions

•Provide an estimate of arrival time at customer's Location inresponse to service request based on the job instructions fromBranch giving details of customer location, Vessel, contact nameand nature of problem and current worksituation.

•Contact customer's site management in order to register arrival andpresence on site and ensure knowledge of customer procedures so asto adhere to siterequirements.

•Diagnose the likely cause of reported equipment problems, indiscussion with customer operators/supervisors and usingspecialised equipment, in order to provide the customer with aninformation for the work required. Provide a comprehensive detail to allow Finning toconstruct a quote as requested by thecustomer.

•Identify the parts required to carry out the repair and requisitionany parts and determine expected time of delivery so that a dateand time of any necessary service re-visit can be agreed withcustomer.

•Undertake repair and service work on the machine to the agreed workplan, removing and despatching components for specialist attentionand re-installing the original or replacement, to bring the machineup to the requiredstandards.

RequiredKnowledge:

• Knowledgein the use of field based diagnosis tools and equipmentessential
• Knowledgeand experience of in depth repair of marineengines.
• Knowledge in the use of field-baseddiagnosis tools and equipmentessential
• Medium & high-speed marineengines, packages and systems.
• Electronic,mechanical and electrical engineeringprinciples.

Accountability

Undertakea local site risk assessment prior to commencing service work,preparing an appropriate method statement in line with standardsituation procedures and principles, or discuss rectification ofsite circumstances with customer and/or Finning supervisor so thatall work is carried out in accordance with health and safetyrequirements. Inspect and test completed machine to ensure unit isoperating to expected performance levels, reporting any furtherdefects or suspect conditions to the customer to support theongoing operational effectiveness of the machine. Finish theservice reports and warranty documentation to enable the correctand timely charging of the customer and suppliers. Ensurecompliance with all Health and Safety policies andprocedures.

Education:

•Formally apprentice trained (NVQ Level 3) and servedengineer.
