- Support the operational and technical team in completing and maintain geotechnical risk assessments across open pit and underground operations and surrounding areas.
- Support the site operations teams in designing of geotechnical monitoring systems and interpretation of monitoring data.
- Lead the development of geotechnical models for operations including:
- planning of geotechnical data collection programs
- management of geotechnical data collection programs and QAQC of data
- develop and maintain geotechnical models; geotechnical domain models., geotechnical block models.
- Lead the development of slope designs for open pit benches and waste dumps, utilizing appropriate geotechnical modelling software and methodologies. Conduct rigorous stability analyses to assess the factors influencing slope stability, such as geological structures, rock properties, and hydrogeological conditions.
- Develop and build on existing geotechnical systems and procedures for the KCC and MUMI operations.
- Support collaboration between the mine geotechnical and operational teams across sites and regions ensuring the sharing of successful innovation and practice initiatives.
- Embed the Glencore safety systems as core operating process for the operations geotechnical design and review function.
- Support internal technical and external l reviews and audits for operations and projects.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and requirements related to geotechnical engineering.
- Provide technical guidance and support to site-based geotechnical engineers and technicians. Develop and deliver training programs to ensure that site personnel are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to identify and manage geotechnical risks effectively.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement ground support systems, including rock bolts, mesh, shotcrete, and geosynthetic reinforcements, to enhance the stability of high-risk areas and minimize the risk of slope failures.
Your qualification and skills: - Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) preferred.
- 20+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering across base and precious metals.
- Extensive experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining industry, with a focus on open pit operations.
- Professional Engineering (PE) or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) designation.
- Proficiency in geotechnical modelling software (e.g., Rocscience, FLAC, Slide) and familiarity with GIS software.
- Strong understanding of geological and geotechnical principles, including rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and hydrogeology.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead multidisciplinary teams and influence decision-making processes.
- Proven track record of managing geotechnical risks and implementing innovative solutions to improve mine safety and productivity.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry best practices in geotechnical engineering and mine safety.
- Prior experience managing diverse teams, preferably in Africa.
- English language skills (preferably bilingual French/English).
