Introduction


The Chamber and Participation Team (CPT) brings together all the disciplines that support the House of Commons Chamber within one clear structure.

The Chamber Engagement team sit within CPT and work impartially on behalf of Members to identify and source citizens' personal stories and experiences that can be referred to during parliamentary debates.


The Role


The Senior Digital Engagement Officer will collaborate with colleagues in the Petitions Committee, Members' offices and wider CPT teams to engage the public with parliamentary business led by backbench members.

The role involves close proximity to business in Westminster Hall, the House of Commons Chamber and other parliamentary settings.


Responsibilities include:

  • Create engaging written and visual content to inform and involve the public in parliamentary business
  • Confidently communicate with colleagues across Parliament to collaborate on public engagement projects
  • Research parliamentary material including Hansard, Library briefings, parliamentary questions and committee activity in order to become familiar with key issues in a range of policy areas.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in producing engaging and accessible digital content. Familiarity with digital tools and platforms, and ability to quickly gain proficiency in unfamiliar technologies.
  • Proven experience in writing and proofreading copy to engage and inform a wide range of audiences which could include members of the public, Members of Parliament, and bespoke audiences, tailoring approaches where necessary to meet the needs of diverse audience groups with tact, impartiality, accuracy, and sensitivity.
  • An ability to work collaboratively and inclusively with colleagues within teams and across Parliament, influencing and negotiating where appropriate.
  • Strong organisational skills, with demonstrable experience of working in a fastchanging environment, planning and prioritising your own work to meet strict deadlines and achieve high standards of quality.
  • Demonstrable interest in current affairs, politics, and parliamentary activity
