Job summary
We currently have an exciting opportunity for Band 6 nurse to join the Special School Nursing Service which is part of Hillingdon's Community Children's Nursing Team (CCNT).
We are looking for a nurse who is highly motivated, enthusiastic and caring, to work within a team supporting children & Young people from 4-19 years who have a range of learning disabilities and complex health needs such as epilepsy, enteral feeding and oxygen dependent children. You will be allocated a named school but will be required to work across any of the 3 sites. The team works closely with other multi-disciplinary agencies and the schools to ensure the children reach their full potential.
The candidate should have previous experience of working with children with complex health needs, excellent communication skills and be highly motivated. They should also have a flexible approach, able to work autonomously to deliver the service to the local children. An understanding of safeguarding and working with vulnerable families is required.
You will be supported by the special school nurses in the team and the CCNT.
Please note that annual leave is to be taken out of term time except in exceptional circumstances.

Main duties of the job
The Special school nurses will work closely with the children/young people who use our services, families, friends and carers and play an important contribution in how people experience our services. Special School nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
keeping the children/young people who using our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments
responsible for implementing assessments, management of medical clinics, supporting school staff on clinical care, management of medication
ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence based policies and procedures
ensuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process
About us
You will be part of the Children's Community Nursing Team (CCNT) in Hillingdon, working closely with the children's nurses, school staff, other allied health professionals and medical staff at Hillingdon Hospital as well as the specialist dietitian.. You will also be part of a wider peer supervision group of children's nurses to support evidence based practice and innovation.

To organise the day to day Special School Nursing Services to children within the 3 Special Needs Schools, through supporting the school staff.

Special School nurses work as part of a team and you will contribute to the success of the team by being an effective role model and supervising other Band 5 nurses, healthcare assistants/ support workers and students to ensure they are working to the standards which the people using our services deserve.
