    Post: clinical fellow in surgery, ORTHOPAEDICS and MAJOR trauma

    Applications are invited for the above posts within the General Surgery (incl. Transplant), Orthopaedics and Major Trauma services. Posts will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for 1 year initially with the possibility of extension depending on aspirations. Candidates should be in possession of the MBChB (UK) or equivalent and must have prior experience in General Surgery and/or Orthopaedic Surgery.

    Posts available include:

    6 x 12 month Orthopaedics

    5 x 12 month General Surgery & General Surgery/Transplant

    6 x 12 month Major Trauma fellow (with associated sub-specialty Surgery or Orthopaedics)

    These posts would be ideal for those who wish to pursue a career in surgery or Orthopaedics, but need more clinical experience and/or more time to bolster their CV credentials before applying for CT or ST posts. Your post will be treated as formal approved teaching post.

    You will be assigned both a Clinical and Educational Supervisor at the start of the job, with the expectation to have goals set out at the start of the job and regular meetings thereafter, recorded for future reference.

    Subscription of the eLogbook and engagement with ISCP will be supported to allow formal record your operative sessions and progress. These will be signed off at the end of the 6 months by your clinical supervisor.

    The post is available within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde hospitals and duties will include: managing major trauma, general surgery, Orthopaedics and transplant; participating in the on-call rota in the department, emergency ward cover; and attending outpatient clinics and theatre. In addition the applicant can take a lead on departmental research or teaching activity, possibly with a view to completion of a higher degree (MSc). Established projects exist from the Orthopaedic trauma base, upper GI and Colorectal surgery. Time within the working week may be set aside for this specifically.

    The Acute Division of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest group of adult acute hospitals in . We provide a wide range of services from community-based care through to the full range of general hospital services.

    Employing more than 14,300 staff, we serve a core catchment population of 560,000. Our patients not only come from Greater Glasgow and Clyde but also, in some instances, from the whole of the West of Scotland and for our national services, from the whole of .

    To practice medicine in the you need to hold both GMC registration and a licence to practice.

    This post does not have Educational approval and will not be recognised for training.

    However, the post holder will be offered the same opportunities for education as the other training post jobs at the same level.
