Job overview
The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide medicines management and medicines optimisation services from our four hospital sites across the City of London and East London.
We require an experienced individual with drive, enthusiasm, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and an ability to work under pressure. You should be a team player, able to perform effectively within the pharmacy and wider healthcare settings.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing an accurate and efficient service in the pharmacy dispensary including supporting the Senior Pharmacy Technician in managing a busy department. This role will also include rotations on the Royal London Hospital site to rotate through the main dispensary, Satellite Dispensary and Medicines Management.
We would expect applicants to be highly motivated and responsible individuals with a passion for customer service and team work.

For this role you are required to be registered with the General pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). You should have experience within an inpatient hospital dispensing setting and experience in Supervising and training. You will also be required to hold or be working towards an accredited checking accreditation.
Main duties of the job
This is a rotational post which provides the post holder with the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, good work ethics and attitude following a guided programme of learning.
The post holder will have set objectives for each rotation and be expected to successfully complete the Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) and Medicines Optimisation Programmes
(MOP). Pharmacy Technician development is supported and achieved in the rotational programme at all of the rotations in the hospital. Pharmacy Technicians will therefore be expected to work across all
area within the Trust in line with the service needs

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Accurately label and dispense medication against all types of prescriptions and requisitions including; inpatients, TTAs, controlled drugs, clinical trials and chemotherapy to meet agreed delivery times as set by key performance indicators, minimising waiting times for patients.
Perform hatch duties including: receive and log in prescriptions, deal with queries and answer telephone call
To act as a work flow co-ordinator in the dispensary, liaising with the
senior pharmacy technicians.To deal with patients/service users/stakeholders who are discontented with aspects of the service and refer to a senior member of staff for a resolution.
To understand how the robot operates. Be able to deal with discrepancies and problems arising, or know who to refer to if you are unable to solve problems.
To help investigate stock level discrepancies within the dispensary in line with current procedures and to assist in maintaining accurate stock control including daily stock checks, expiry date checks and to report inaccuracies.
To participate in the disposal of expired pharmaceuticals, or appropriate return into stock of previously issued/dispensed items according to standard operating procedures.
To perform the stock check and expiry date check of the emergency drug
cupboard on a daily basis in line with standard operating procedures.

To perform fridge temperature checks of relevant cold storage units.
To undertake the Accuracy checking pharmacy technician (ACPT) programme to be able to perform the role of an accuracy checking pharmacy technician.
