    SHIFT LEAD BAND 6 - WARD B4
    PERMANENT POST
    37.5 Hours

    Exciting opportunities have arisen for anyone who is looking to gain experience within a busy surgical ward.

    The successful Band 6 post-holder will be a registered nurse with experience of regularly managing a team of staff within the acute surgery setting.

    Ward B4 cares for Colorectal and gastrointestinal patients. The ward cares for acute, emergency and elective patients offering a diverse range of experience. We are looking for someone who is keen to continuously help drive the service forward.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder is responsible for the management of the Nursing Unit/Department during the shift, including the organisation of the Nursing Unit/Department activities and the management of staff and resources. The post holder will support the Lead Nurse and Matron in developing and monitoring services and the quality of care experienced by patients.

    Qualification

    Essential criteria

  • First level registration
  • Educated to diploma level or demonstrate experience of operating at this level
  • Evidence of professional development and regular study since qualification
  • Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of undertaking a recognised course of study in teaching and assessing
  • Educated to first degree level or evidence of study at degree level or evidence of study at degree level
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Experience of regularly managing a team of staff and other resources during shifts, within the acute setting
  • Extensive experience in surgical setting
  • Experience of close liaison with members of multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work within a team and develop others
  • Desirable criteria

  • Understanding of leadership theory and practice
  • Knowledge of clinical audit/research methodologies and effectiveness systems
  • Knowledge of effective people management practices
  • Skills

  • Skilled practitioner who can act as a role model
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to demonstrate negotiating and influencing skills
