Position: 5th grade Self-Contained Teacher – one full-time opening for fall 2024
Qualifications:
Required: Michigan teaching certificate with K-5 all subjects
Job Description:
The teacher will have the primary responsibility for planning, programming, and teaching of
5th grade students. The teacher possesses and will utilize needed subject/content area
knowledge and pedagogy to guide and assist students in mastering the knowledge and skills
consistent with the State of Michigan 5th Grade LA, Math, Science and Social Studies
Standards. The teacher will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating and reporting the
progress for all students in their classes. The teacher will collaborate with other staff to
support all students, and provide accommodations and manage instructional challenges
constructively. They will be responsible for establishing a positive and supportive classroom
environment, demonstrate effective professional skills, and will work with other teachers
and staff as a contributing team member in a cooperative and positive adult work
environment.
Desired Skills:
● Possess a comprehensive knowledge of the Michigan 5th grade core content standards
● Ability to effectively impart to students the necessary knowledge and skills in the core
content areas
● Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all stakeholders: students, parents
and co-workers
● Strong communication, listening and organizational skills
● Ability to make personal connections with students, and maintain the philosophy that all
children can learn at high levels when provided with the appropriate instruction
● Ability to utilize appropriate instructional technology into lessons
● Ability to establish a positive learning environment
● Ability to adapt instruction to meet the need of all students
● Receptive to feedback and continuously in pursuit of improving classroom effectiveness
and achievement of student outcomes
Essential Job Functions
● Instruct 5th grade students in developing knowledge and skills of 5th grade core
content subjects in accordance with the course of study adopted by the Board of
Education.
● Encourage students to develop an appreciation of 5th grade course content
● Develop clear and concise lesson plans and effectively organize class time
● Use a variety of instructional techniques appropriate for the age and skill level of
students
● Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to create an effective safe, caring
and orderly classroom environment
● Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student performance
● Provide reteaching and/or interventions when appropriate
● Evaluate and track student progress and program effectiveness
● Communicate effectively with parents, staff, parent organizations, and outside
educational agencies
● Conduct parent-teacher conferences
● Maintain all student academic records associated with 5th grade and required
student management activities
● Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines
● Adhere to and support BCCS's policies and procedures
● Perform other duties as assigned by the principal
