    University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is one of the most complex NHS trusts in the UK, Serving a large and diverse population.

    We provide academically-led acute and specialist services, to people from the local area, from throughout the United Kingdom and overseas.

    They are looking for band 7 Sonographers to join their bank team.

    The post holder will work as a specialist diagnostic practitioner in ultrasound and be responsible for a variable caseload of patients.

    The post holder will supervise, support and assist students and junior sonographers in service delivery and personal development.
    To undertake a specialist practitioner role for a defined area of the Ultrasound service.

    To perform a wide range of specialised ultrasound procedures across a variety of complex clinical presentations and pathologies, to a required standard.

    To operate a variety of Information technology systems to a high level, including the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information System (RIS) and Soliton & ensure that all data inputs are accurately recorded in order to maintain the integrity of data for both patients and the service.

    To provide timely professional support to colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

    To aid in the provision of high quality imaging service that is responsive to the needs of the patient in areas designated on a rotational basis.

    The post holder will be expected to ensure that the images produced are of the highest possible quality as befits a department with an international reputation.

    All requests for imaging from the ward should be actioned on the same day and out-patient appointment time should be adhered to taking into account clinical priority.

    To work in various MRI scanners within the department on a rotational basis as directed by a Superintendent Radiographer
    To undertake intravenous injections of contrast medium in line with departmental policies and procedures.

    To be responsible for the cleanliness, and the provisioning of, the allocated scanner within the department under the direction of the Band 7 Radiographer for that area.

    To ensure that all clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents in the work area are promptly brought to the attention of the Radiology Services Manager and Health and Safety Representative, and when requested, co-operate with any investigations undertaken.

    Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to ensure that the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for patients, employees and visitors.

    To critically evaluate images both technically and clinically in order to ensure that the best possible imaging is produced taking the patient's medical and psychological condition into account.

    To ensure the safety of any patients, relatives and visitors in the MRI controlled area

    ~ To take part in the out of hours, extended working day and weekend rotas.

    To produce and promote images of the highest technical quality as befits a high profile department/hospital, adapting and tailoring the examination to the needs of the patient
    To participate in routine extended day and weekend working

    To observe Local Rules for Radiation Protection and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Safety, ensuring that safety is of paramount importance.

    To work in accordance with IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 2017 as it relates to departmental policies and procedures.
    To advise medical staff as to the application of the department's Referral Criteria for Radiological Examinations.

    To use imaging equipment in the correct manner at all times and report all equipment faults to the Band 7 Radiographer so that remedial action can be taken immediately.

    To diligently record all necessary fiscal and technical data, using departmental and hospital paper and electronic systems i.e., To take an active role in Radiology Audits as required.

    To participate in any research programme within the department as requested by senior radiographic personnel.

    To participate in the induction and training of new personnel to the department and specifically help in the training of student radiographers.

    To attend any courses, study days as requested by the Radiology Services Manager which will enhance personal development or improve the service provided.

    Training, Audit and Governance Responsibilities

    To participate in the induction and training of new staff in MRI.
    To act as a 'buddy' for new staff of the same grade and act as a mentor to junior staff
    To instruct and teach student radiographers and more junior staff and to take an active part in teaching sessions within the department, performing assessments when required
    To attend any courses or study days, as requested by the Radiology Services Manager, which will enhance personal development or improve the service provided and make known their training needs to a Superintendent radiographer

    To actively participate in any research study within the department as requested by the Radiology Services Manager and senior Neuroradiology personnel.

    To play an integral role in the training of other staff in the Neuroradiology department, including radiographers, physicists, surgeons, anaesthetists and other members of the theatre team
    To undertake presentations to the department, feeding back from study days, Postgraduate courses and audit projects
    To maintain and develop an interest in Continued Professional Development, continuously updating and expanding their professional skills and knowledge
    To ensure all training logs are completed and filed appropriately
