- Todemonstrate and utilise specialist knowledge of radiotherapytreatment side effects skin reactions and theirmanagement.
- To ensure that patients have beenfully informed by medical staff of reasons for imaging/ treatmentand expected side effects during and after completion oftreatment.
- Following treatment prescribing bythe Clinical Oncologist assess patients prior to imaging/radiotherapy treatment to ensure that the patient is well enoughfor the procedure referring patients back to medical staff asrequired.
- To be responsible for planningprocedures in the CT Simulator under agreed protocols includingdecision on optimum patient position volume to be imaged and inputof data into Virtual Simulator and Mosaiq (electronic patient/prescription information system).
- To resolvecomplex planning/ treatment issues analysing and solving problemsaffirming the accuracy/ suitability of radiotherapy treatment withreference upwards to the Superintendents or other healthprofessionals as required.
- To analyse approveor reject treatment verification images when necessary adaptingtreatment field alignment to ensure radiotherapy site accuracy asdefined within the treatment verification imagingprotocols.
- To check manual treatmentcalculations and data some of which will be complex on paperprescriptions and on the electronic prescription storage/ recordingand verification system.
- To liaise withOncology consultants and other Health Professionals within themultidisciplinary team regarding complex treatment informationensuring that local and national legal requirements aremet.
- To ensure that radiotherapy planning/treatment equipment is available for scheduled maintenance and toaffirm its suitability for clinical use following anywork/calibrations.
- To ensure that allclinically necessary equipment is usedsafely.
- To immediately report and record anymalfunction of equipment.
- To maintainconfidentiality for patients their careers andstaff.
- To provide advice and support forterminally ill patients their careers andfamilies.
- To maintain a high level ofconcentration to ensure accurate and safe treatments are planned/delivered including fine adjustment of field alignment to tolerancelimits of 2mm on patients.
- To participate inthe oncall service Bank Holiday working and shift work whenrequired demonstrating an ability to be flexible andadaptable.
- Be responsible for treatmentplanning procedures in the CT Simulator.
- Todemonstrate radiotherapy techniques and explain sideeffects etc. tostudents and Health Professionals from other disciplines. E.g.dieticians nurses etc.
- To assist medical staffin the treatment planning/outpatient/ patient review clinics asrequired.
- To maintain high standards of QualityAssurance informing Superintendents and medical staff of clinicalerrors recording and assessing these incidents to identifyconstructive action to prevent furthererrors.
- To dispense medication to patients whennecessary following agreed protocols.
- Toparticipate in clinical audit and clinical governance issues asrequired.
