    Bangor ED is unique. Sandwiched between the mountains of Snowdonia and the Isle of Anglesey, this is the place to enjoy rural EM. Our happy, friendly department (seeing 52,000 patients pa) is developing fast as we pursue our goal of excellence in rural EM. We are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant to join our team - 8 sessions for a 12 month period from 1 September 2024. We offer a civilized 1 in 8 rota, and the Welsh Consultant Contact is based upon 7 DCC: 3 SPA which provides flexibility in job planning. As for life in North Wales, if you like outdoor pursuits, you'll be in heaven here: everything from hill-walking to kite-surfing is on the doorstep. Yet we are only a one-hour drive from Chester and the M6, and three hours from London by train.

Main duties of the job Your Consultant supervisor would be the Lead Clinician of the Emergency Department. You would be expected to contribute to clinical and educational activities within the Directorate as determined by the Consultant on your team and provide a high quality service to the local population including an emergency on-call commitment. The current expected on call Rota is 1:8. You would be 1 in 8 on call. You will be required to cover for your colleagues' periods of leave. To assist nominated consultants in the supervision and teaching of junior trainees. To contribute, to local clinical governance activities including clinical audit and clinical risk initiatives. You will be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services and expected to share with all colleagues in the medical contribution to management. Subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service you will be expected to observe policies and procedures of the Health Board, drawn up in consultation with the profession where they involve clinical matters. You will be expected to pursue local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures in the management of employees of the Health Board. There are regular weekly departmental teaching and educational activities, together with opportunities to attend appropriate courses which would fulfil your CPD requirements.     Experience
    Essential
    • Appropriate experience in recognised training grade posts leading to CCT in Emergency Medicine (or comparable training and experience as demonstrated by possession of a CESR in EM)
    • Sub-specialist interest in a subject relevant to Emergency Medicine

    Knowledge / Qualifications
    Essential

    • MB ChB or equivalent
    • FRCEM or equivalent higher qualification
    • Inclusion on Specialist Register or eligible for award of CCT within 6 months
    • Full registration with GMC
    • Member MDU / MPS / MDDUS
    • ALS / ATLS / APLS / EPLS Instructor status

    Basic Skills and Abilities
    Essential

    • Appropriate levels of skills and abilities expected from a properly trained EM Consultant
    • Basic ED Ultrasound Skills
    • Advanced Ultrasound skills
    • Publications relevant to EM

    Personal Qualities
    Essential

    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Good team leader and team member
    • Ability to organise and develop emergency services
    • Ability to network with other specialties and hospitals in North Wales

    Other Relevant Requirements
    Essential

    • Adaptability to changing needs of service
    • Work in pressured environment
    • Willingness to teach and train junior medical staff in Emergency Medicine
