    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and registered health care professional, to be part of UHL's Resuscitation service.

    The post holder will be a central part of the Resuscitation training team working closely with the Senior Resuscitation Officer and in delivering resuscitation training and auditing emergency equipment. The post holder will also be a supportive clinical presence at emergency events offering clinical expertise.

    If you are an experienced Band 5 or existing band 6 looking for a new and exciting opportunity within the resuscitation service then we offer full training and support to prepare you for the role.

    Previous experience and knowledge of delivering teaching is preferred however full training will be given to the right candidate.

    Preferably you should have experience working within an acute clinical environment and participating as part of a team in medical emergencies / Cardiac Arrest situations.

    Self-motivation and initiative are essential in this role, as is the ability to prioritise, multitask workload, maintain accuracy whilst meeting deadlines and deal calmly with changing priorities.

    The job is well supported and provides good opportunities to demonstrate initiative and willingness to take on responsibility is a must in this dynamic role.

    You must be keen to develop and teach new skills to all levels of staff.

    An informal visit is essential for you to fully appreciate the work of the department.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will function as a specialist resource in all aspects of the Resuscitation and National Course Services by:Delivering education and training to all register and non-register staff groups.Supporting the Senior Resuscitation Officer in the implementation and monitoring of the resuscitation service provision.Supporting the National course lead in the provision and delivery of all National coursesProvide a clinical presence at Cardiac Arrest events.Deputise for the Senior Resuscitation Officer and National Course Lead

    Job responsibilities

    Maintain professional registration and clinical expertise and skills regular clinical activitiesAttend cardiac arrests within scope of practiceProvide resuscitation skills including defibrillation and basic airway managementProvide clinical support to staff during medical emergencies and cardiac arrestsSupport and advise on issues regarding the decision for Do Not AttemptResuscitation (DNACPR) and ReSPECTProvide knowledge and advice in the clinical areas on any matter pertaining to resuscitationProvide staff with support and debrief following a cardiac arrest as appropriateBe fully conversant with the operation of all resuscitation equipment used within the Trust both clinically and in trainingUndertake function as Duty Resuscitation Specialist as rostered, following the responsibilities belowCarry the cardiac arrest bleep and attend emergency calls as requiredSupport switchboard in collating data pertaining to 2222 calls

    Perform follow up visits to areas following emergency calls to ascertainoutcomes and lessons to be learnt: this will involve ensuring that there is arelated DATIX for the event, adding to the DATIX information detail asrequired, reviewing medical notes were appropriate, interviewing ordebriefing staff to enable a full evaluation of outcomeFollow up of long term survival of patients whether they remain in-hospitalor have been discharged to the community utilising the appropriate patientrecordsPerform defibrillator downloads and analyse the results where possiblePerform defined audits as time/agenda permitsAttend meetings to represent the team as requiredAct as a resource for ward staff for ad-hoc teaching, attending wardmeetings or support with equipment issuesEnsure adverse incidents, near misses that occur during the course of anemergency call are reported and acted upon

    Monitor equipment usage ensuring that they are utilised to maximum effectSupport initiatives to reduce cost of the clinical skills unit equipment and the central stores for resuscitation equipmentSupport in identifying and challenging spend

    Assess the competency of staff in performing resuscitation procedures and arrange further training where appropriateInform staff members of any changes relating to resuscitation practice anddevelopment in line with the current guidelines of the Resuscitation Council (UK)In the absence of the Senior Resuscitation Officer/National course lead, line manage the Resuscitation Tutors and Administrative staffWork collaboratively with the Clinical Skills Facilitators/Tutors in prioritising workload and training responsibilitiesAssist in the development and maintain a support network for staff and trainers involved in resuscitation and the care of the deteriorating patientContribute to the debrief of staff when requiredDirect line management of junior members of the team

    Act as a professional role model at all times whilst supporting the organisational workforce in matters of the national course and resuscitation service

    Support the Senior Resuscitation Officer/National course Lead in the development, implementation and dissemination of policy and guidance

    Assist in the development and coordinate key collaborative working relationships and provide a central link for all clinical staff, education staff and external bodiesand provide a central link for all clinical staff, education staff and external bodies for all aspects of national course provision, resuscitation and the deteriorating patientEnsure clear lines of communication between the Resuscitation/National course service and wider directorate and across the Trust

    Support the Senior Resuscitation Officer and clinical areas throughout the Trust in the availability and standardisation of resuscitation equipmentPrepare, develop and maintain with departmental managers, a robust system to ensure all resuscitation equipment in clinical use is maintained to an appropriate standard

    Ensure the management and prevention of life threatening emergencies is based upon research, education and best practice guidelinesAssist the Senior Resuscitation Officer to devise and oversee systems andprocesses to ensure that all staff have regular training appropriate to their rolesTo support the National Course Lead in the administration of all national course run within UHL

    To be able to deliver teaching in accordance with service needs

    Collate appropriate data for audit process in line with Clinical GovernanceCollaborate in research projects involving other departments, the Resuscitation Council (UK) or othersAssist with standard setting initiatives, protocols and quality assurance programmes and to ensure on-going evaluations of all relevant coursesParticipate in the development of the Resuscitation service by maintaining accurate records for the audit process and by liaising with clinical areas and other service users in order to receive feedback and to evaluate the effectiveness of the serviceCoordinate and participate in local and national audit including, but not exclusively, compliance with DATIX returns, NCAA, Trolley checks and training compliance and course feedbackAudit medical emergency and resuscitation calls in all age ranges, completing any Trust reporting documentationAssist and facilitate the on-going development and promotion of a robustgovernance strategy emphasising risk management, audit clinical standards and guidelines, research based practice, information networks and dissemination

    Responsible for ensuring that consistently high standards of customer service are delivered by the Resuscitation and National Course services
