What is a Youth Support Assistant Volunteer?
The Lodge at Derian House supports young people aged yrs during their transition to adulthood. We offer health, social, well-being and psychosocial support both in the Lodge and in the community.

As part of this fantastic service, the team offer two peer support groups and a family drop in session:


  • Friday Night Club: One Friday a month 6.00pm 9pm (ages 1418)
  • Friday Night Club: One Friday a month 6.00pm to 9pm (ages 1826)
  • Youth Family 'Drop In': One Saturday a month pm


We are looking for volunteers aged 18 + who can provide us with a regular commitment to support any of the above clubs or drop in sessions.


Our Friday Night Clubs are fun and supportive for our young people but there may be times that as a volunteer you are party to conversations with the young people about peer loss and end of life wishes.


The Youth Family 'Drop In' sessions are essential in providing a relaxed and supportive environment, where parents and their young person can meet others and join in a variety of activities.


What's involved?

  • Getting the group involved with games & sport activities
  • Helping to set up arts and craft projects
  • Supporting outdoor activities in our amazing grounds
  • Help with cooking and baking activities to support their life skills
  • We may sometimes need your help to undertake offsite fun trips (which may be outside of normal group times)
  • Gain an awareness of the services that Derian House offers to our Children, Young People and their families so you can answer any questions families or visitors may enquire about.

This role will suit people who are enthusiastic, approachable, fun & bubbly, a good communicator & very friendly. Experience of working with children & young people is beneficial but not essential. You must be willing to provide a regular commitment & participation in mandatory training is essential annually. You must ensure confidentiality, respect and dignity at all times. We really value kindness, honesty, integrity and reliability in our volunteers and staff and in return, we will do our best to provide you with a rewarding volunteer experience.


Time Commitment:


  • Friday Night Club: One Friday a month 6.00pm to 9pm (ages 1418)
  • Friday Night Club: One Friday a month 6.00pm to 9pm (ages 1826)
  • Youth Family Drop In: One Saturday a month 1.30 to 3pm

Training Requirements:

Full site induction & mandatory annual training will be provided


Age Restrictions:

Volunteers must be aged 18yrs plus
