- To deliver and supervise highly specialist cognitive-behavioural interventions for people diagnosed with psychosis, with a current persecutory delusion. Training in the intervention will be provided.
- With training and expert supervision, to develop and use specialist skills at assessing and formulating persecutory delusions in the context of psychosis.
- To form excellent relationships with clinical teams in order to support recruitment of patients into the trial and provide co-ordinated care for patients receiving the intervention.
- Responsibility for the organisation, day-to-day management, and running of one site of a large randomised controlled trial with patients with psychosis and persecutory delusions. It will be particularly important to meet recruitment targets, ensure a high retention rate in the trial, and a high uptake of the Feeling Safer treatment.
- To supervise other staff in the delivery of the treatment, ensuring high rates of engagement and fidelity to the protocol.
- To supervise the research assistants working on the trial, ensuring recruitment targets are achieved, assessments are completed, and blinding of research assessors is maintained.
- To provide regular reports on the progress of the study. This will include providing information required by the funder.
- Recruitment and provision of the intervention will occur in CNTW NHS trust. This means there will be extensive travel across the large geographical area both to clinical teams and patient homes, which would be facilitated by having valid driving licence, and access to own or other independent means of transport.
- Good record-keeping and report writing will be needed, in line with trial and Trust protocols.
- Working to standard operational procedures for the trial will be expected.
- Attendance at supervision will be expected, and at appropriate research team meetings, including at the lead site, Oxford.
- You will need to work some irregular hours occasionally to fit with patient availability.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the research team that is evaluating Feeling Safer. A multi-centre randomised controlled trial treating NHS patients diagnosed with psychosis and with a current persecutory delusion will be undertaken to test the Feeling Safer treatment. Patients will be randomised to one of four conditions; (1) Feeling Safer in addition to treatment as usual, supported by peer support workers, (2) Feeling Safer in addition to treatment as usual, supported by assistant psychologists/graduate mental health workers, (3) Feeling Safer in addition to treatment as usual, supported by a clinical psychologist providing CBT therapy, (4) treatment as usual. Patients, Feeling Safer deliverers, and other mental health staff will also be interviewed to learn more about the therapy and how it may be used in the NHS.
The Feeling Safer trial will now test the intervention in NHS mental health services at six sites across England. Around 484 patients will participate. Each site, which will closely work together, will comprise established site leads, a clinical/counselling psychologist delivering CBT therapy, research assistants, a peer support worker, and a graduate mental health worker. The whole team will comprise over 40 people.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will have a central role in the trial, being responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Feeling Safer trial within the CNTW NHS trust. This will include delivering psychological therapy, supervising research assistants in the recruitment and assessment of trial participants, and supervising other clinicians in the delivery of the intervention. They will be accountable to the site principal investigator Robert Dudley and they will receive supervision from Prof Daniel Freeman (Chief Investigator) and Dr Felicity Waite from the lead site: Oxford. The position would suit a clinician (for example, a clinical psychologist or CBT therapist) with strong interests in cognitive therapy, treatment innovation, and clinical trials.
