    Job summary

    Are you ready for a new challenge? Want to progress research to improve patient care? We are looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic pharmacist who shares our Trust values to join our expanding clinical trials and research team at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

    Mersey Care is at the forefront of clinical trials for mental health, putting our staff and service users at the leading edge of new mental health research. Based within the Medicines Management team, you will join a dynamic, forward-thinking and patient-focused team striving for excellence in the delivery of integrated community and mental health services.

    Mersey Care and the University of Liverpool have recently teamed up to create the Mental Health Research for Innovation Centre (M-RIC), aiming to improve mental health treatments (and access to them) for all patients and service users. The pharmacy clinical trials service plays an integral role through the development and delivery of Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs).

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive clinical pharmacy and research and clinical trials service, providing specialist information and advice to all members of the multi-disciplinary team, to maximise patient pharmaceutical care and to improve mental health care for patients and service users. The post holder will participate in the dispensary rota to ensure that medicines are supplied in an accurate and timely manner. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly in line with the hours of operation.

    Job responsibilities

    To be responsible for implementing the Medicines Management strategy in the Trust and supporting the research and clinical trials pharmacy service in line with national and regulatory deputise for a higher grade of pharmacist as required3.Participation in screening, dispensing and checking of clinical trial prescriptions, and advising others of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and requirements relating to Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) participate in the Trust-wide Out of Hours Medicines Advice Service and seven-day medicine supply with the support of Pharmacy Technicians, the process of medicines reconciliation following admission or transfer of service users within the trust or for the purposes of research or clinical trials. This involves collating information from patients and carers and liaising with professionals from other healthcare organisations to ascertain presenting complaint, past medical and medication history, working diagnosis and relevant biomedical and psychiatric test results to ensure the safe and effective use of that each medicine has an appropriate indication and each diagnosis has appropriate that existing therapy is safe to take with, and has not contributed to, the presenting that new treatments are compatible with the patients recommendations on changes to drug therapy in line with the recommendations in the light of new results and treatment on which medications should continue and which should stop, as Monitoring for adverse drug reactions and submitting yellow cards where appropriate. Reporting adverse events arising from the use of IMP to the trial sponsor and in line with agreed trial procedure

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Master of Pharmacy degree, or equivalent qualification
  • Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy, willingness to work towards or equivalent experience
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Desirable

  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
  • GCP training
  • Knowledge/Experience
