- Diploma in counselling
- Accreditation by the BACP or UKCP
- Offer appointments and consultation at specific times
- Liaise and work effectively with the wider College Pastoral & Wellbeing teams
- Ensure clear contracting with clients as to the capabilities and limitations of the service so as to promote client's wellbeing and autonomy
- Liaise with and make appropriate referrals to NHS, Voluntary or other external agencies as appropriate, maintaining confidential records in line with BACP guidelines
- Liaise with and provide consultation to College staff, advising on dealing with certain
- situations, providing guidance and informing of best practice
- When requested to provide staff with one to one personal advice on where to receive
- appropriate support (though not provide on-going counselling to staff)
- Maintain awareness of the uptake of the service with regard to equal opportunities and to seek to ensure that the service is accessible to all students
- Ensure ongoing personal and professional development through regular meetings with an external supervisor peer group supervision and other appropriate activities
- Staying informed of trends and developments in the professional field, especially with regard to student counselling and to advise the College of the policy implications arising from these changes
- Maintain professional standards and electronic records in line with the Student Counselling Service Policy, BACP Ethical Framework and Guidance and Data Protection Act
- Promote counselling and advice in a range of ways to ensure that all students are aware of what is on offer and how to access it
- Ensure records are up to date and to provide data on the use of the service as required
- Provide advice and support to staff in dealing with students who have difficulties
- Provide an annual report of the activities of the service as part of the college's quality assurance procedures

Start Date: April 2024
Responsible to: College Safeguarding Lead & Director of Student Experience
Post Objective: To provide therapeutic counselling for students on issues which may compromise their mental health. Student counsellors will be required to carry out counselling assessments for students, ensuring that counselling supervision is accessible and that regular and other management reports are produced as necessary.
A large and successful college, based at 2 sites, in Birmingham (B4 & B44) are looking to appoint a motivated, independent and hardworking individual to fill the post of Student Counsellor. The successful candidate will ensure that an effective appointment system is in place and to keep accurate and up to date records and respond to Safeguarding concerns, in line with college policy.
