Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
NHS Medical & Dental:
Applications are invited for a Full Time Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working across our two sites, Luton & Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital.
This appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract.Luton & Dunstable Hospital is the hub for an OMFS network covering Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes & North & East Herts.
Though rare, there may on occasion be a requirement to work on other sites within the Network.Weekly work commitments will be within EWTD guidance & also be influenced by the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial recommendations, the Consultant contract & will be specified in the Job Plan.
The appointee will participate in a 1:8 on call commitment based at Luton & Dunstable Hospital and will participate in the 1:4 flap rota.
The Clinical Director will encourage the member to be part of the New Consultant Forum of the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons & will also help to choose a mentor within the Trust but outside the department.
The appointee will join a friendly team of 8 Consultant OMF Surgeons within the Beds, Herts & Bucks OMFS network, providing services for Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Bedford Hospital, Lister Hospital, QEII Hospital & Milton Keynes Hospital.
The post-holder will be competent in assessing & carrying out the full range of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. All in-patient services & on-call duties have been centralised to Luton Hospital. Out-patient clinics, day case surgery & local anaesthetic minor oral surgery are undertaken in all of the units.The clinical team is fully supported by a team of highly trained dental nurses & maxillofacial/orthodontic technologists.
We are fully committed to teaching and training both undergraduate medical students and post graduate doctors and have an excellent reputation for junior staff training.
Both hospitals have easy access to central London & the rural Chilterns. BDS or equivalentMedical and Dental Degree
Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS)
Evidence of sub-speciality training or fellowship out of region
Participation in relevant local audits
Knowledge and ability to teach clinical and operative skills to all grades of trainees and medical students
Understands learner-centred training
Residence within 10 miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital for purposes of on-call emergencies
Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision
Flexible attitude, team player with good management skills
