Job summary
The post holder will provide an inpatient service for haematology, urology and skin cancers. They will also run one remote clinic each week for skin and urology cancers. The role will provide dietetic support alongside a multi-disciplinary team to patients along various points of their cancer pathway including from diagnosis, through treatment and for those in long term follow up or palliative care.
The post may involve some cross site working and opportunities to rotate to other band 6 oncology roles may arise in the future.
We are a well-established team of 8 specialist dietitians and 1 dietetic assistant working in the Cancer Centre at Guy's Hospital. The oncology dietetic team is highly respected within the oncology and haematology directorate and regularly undertake service development and audit in order to ensure a high quality, effective, safe & patient-focussed service.
As such we are looking for a dynamic & enthusiastic dietitian with strong communication, team working and problem solving skills to join our friendly & forward-thinking team. There will be leadership opportunities to support professional development as well as inhouse CPD opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Guy's Hospital is one of the 's leading cancer hospitals and the role of the dietitian is highly valued with in the oncology directorate. The state of the art Cancer Treatment Centre opened in 2016 and last year saw the launch of the Guy's Cancer Academy. We are a large Academic Health Sciences Centre with King's College London and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced clinicians and leading researchers in the Trust and at King's College, London.
The post holder will be joining a team of over 100 dietitians working across Guy's, St Thomas', the Evelina Children's Hospital, and Lambeth, Southwark community services. The department has a strong commitment to research and teaching.
Job descriptionJob responsibilities
To be a member of the oncology dietetic team responsible for the nutrition and dietetic management of oncology and haematology patients receiving treatment by the oncology and haematology teams.
To be responsible for haematology and oncology patients receiving oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition support on the Guys Hospital site as in-patients as well as in outpatient clinics. Further outpatient support may also be provided to the chemotherapy day unit, radiotherapy department and at the acute oncology service department.
To work closely with the haematology and oncology multidisciplinary teams to facilitate the delivery of seamless holistic care and monitoring of this patient group.
To manage the setup, monitoring and discharge home of a caseload of patients requiring home enteral feeding and liaise appropriately with local community support teams.
To work with the Nutrition Team to select patients suitable for parenteral nutrition and home parenteral nutrition.
To provide expert dietetic advice to the multidisciplinary team through attendance and participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and ward rounds.
To provide expert advice to clinicians, patients and carers regarding provision of nutritional support for patients based on clinical evidence. This will involve nutritional assessment, to include the calculation of nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry clinical condition and other physical parameters.
To initiate and participate in regular research and audit in line with departmental and multidisciplinary team procedures.
To undertake leadership responsibilities within the team and wider dietetic department.
To contribute to teaching and education of dietitians and other professional groups within the Trust.
To contribute to delivery of health and wellbeing events for patients living with and beyond cancer.
To provide nutrition education to cancer-specific support groups.
To provide clinical cover for colleagues within the oncology dietetic team.
