- Admission and Discharge of surgical ophthalmic patients
- Pre-assessment of ophthalmic patients
- Casualty triage of Ophthalmic emergencies
- Be responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care.
- To be responsible for the Pre-assessment of ophthalmic patients in various hospital settings.
- To be responsible for admission and Discharge of ophthalmic patients
- To be responsible for the management of ophthalmic casualties.
- Assist in developing an environment that supports the value of nursing care.

- NMC Adult nurse registration
- ENB 346 or equivalent
- To have basic knowledge of the eye anatomy and physiology
- Good knowledge of computer software , Microsoft, e-mail, and fax

- Competent telephone manner.

Job summary
We have an opening for experienced staff nurses to join our busy Day Case Ophthalmology Unit.
You will work with a dedicated team where you will be encouraged to develop and enhance your nursing skills within the speciality.
The role involves rotation between the Day Case Unit, Pre-assessment, you will also gain experience in ophthalmic casualty triage, and admission and discharge of ophthalmic surgical patients.
Main duties of the job
Main duties will be:
We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of qualified nurses, Technicians and HCAs we currently work Mon - Sat but will be moving to 7 day working soon.
We are a busy team who cover a variety of areas Pre-op, ward and we also run a busy ophthalmic casualty service.
There is an expectation that you will complete the ophthalmic course eventually.
You will be supported by an experienced member of the team for the first month to give you experience and confidence

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.
The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receivea full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely.
