    Job summary

    This is a great opportunity to join the Pembrokeshire Speech and Language Therapy Service to work as a Speech and Language Therapy Associate Practitioner.

    The successful applicant will support the 0 to 5's service and will follow individual and group speech and language therapy programmes with families in Flying Start areas and/or Core service areas. You will also be responsible for establishing Welsh Government Talk with Me messages in Mainstream School Nurseries or non maintained nurseries through in-setting training and coaching.

    The focus of this post is to share public health messages through engagement activity and Universal and Targeted support and you will also be asked to support some families and children to implement their individual Speech Language and Communication programmes.

    Main duties of the job

    The practitioner will have excellent communication and organisational skills and will work alongside Speech and Language Therapists and Speech & Language Therapy Assistants to provide a service to children with speech, language and complex communication difficulties and their families. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic person with a commitment to providing high standards of care and experienced in actively participating in public health activities as well as supporting settings to use universal and targeted strategies to support speech, language and communication skills.

    The post holder will help to raise awareness of the importance of communication by contributing to groups such as ante-natal classes, babbling babies groups and other parent courses.

    Previous experience of working with young children and their families and carers will be advantageous. You will need to be able to work independently as well as be a team player and understand the importance of spending time with colleagues from a range of agencies to ensure that the support given to families is integrated. You will need to be able to meet the travelling requirements of the job.

    Work is carried out in a variety of locations throughout Pembrokeshire.

    The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

    Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales.     Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

    Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

    Qualifications and Knowledge

    Essential

  • NNEB, NVQ, Diploma in Speech and language therapy or other relevant level 4 qualification or equivalent experience.
  • GCSE grade C or above in English and Mathematics
  • Relevant prior experience
  • Knowledge of issues relating to confidentiality
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of role related CPD
  • Attendance at relevant short courses
  • Experience

  • Working with children who have communication difficulties in a range of settings
