    An opportunity has arisen within the Gynaecology nursing team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for a Nurse Hysteroscopist to work as part of our friendly Ambulatory Gynaecology Team based at The Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.

    This is an exciting post for a person that is passionate about Womens Health.

    You will bring leadership within your sphere of the nursing team in order to provide clinically excellent, compassionate care.

    Gynaecology at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust offers services across our three hospital sites Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Kidderminster Treatment Centre and The Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.

    We comprise of the Womens Health Unit, Emergency Gynaecology Assessment Unit and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, Gynaecology sub-specialty clinics and inpatient care.

    Act as an autonomous practitioner using advanced specialist skills to investigate, assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of own case load of patients presenting to the Post Menopausal Bleeding (PMB) and Outpatient Hysteroscopy (OPH) service in line with agreed protocols, guidelines and patient group directives (PGDs).

    Provide evidence based, high quality and safe standards of care.

    Provide expert advice relating to PMB and OPH to patients, their relatives, and Oncology/Gynae multidisciplinary team members, medical staff, patient representative groups, trainees and students.

    Provide specialist advice and clinical care for women and their families, in partnership with other specialised services to facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care

    In collaboration with the Lead For Ambulatory Gynaecology Services, develop and review protocols and guidelines for the OPH and PMB services.

    Develop and lead audit and patient satisfaction surveys for the PMB and OPH services
    Assist in managing PMB and OPH clinics to ensure patients are investigated in keeping with cancer waiting time targets

    Assist in managing PMB and OPH clinics to ensure patients are investigated in keeping with cancer waiting time targets
    As an autonomous practitioner, provide assessment, planning, investigations, diagnosis and treatment for women requiring outpatient hysteroscopy, within own competence, skill and qualifications
    Working as an autonomous practitioner, plan and organise workload effectively and be accountable for the quality and standard of work performed
    Provide a high level of clinical expertise and leadership in the unit and ensure the delivery of patient care in accordance with national and local guidelines, policy and procedures ensuring best standards of practice, the NMC code
    Support both medical and nursing staff in the delivery of high quality care that is safe, clinically effective and takes into account the patient experience
    Contribute to the formulation of patient information leaflets and clinical/departmental guidelines
    Be a contact/resource for GPs and other healthcare professionals
    Take delegated and non-delegated consent for investigations, procedures and treatments within own sphere of competence and adhering to local guidelines

    Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team both within the organisation and with outside stakeholders, to ensure high standards of care are maintained.

    Communicate proactively with all staff on the clinical condition and treatment/discharge plans of patients and ensures accurate and contemporaneous nursing records are maintained
    Ensure the unit works collaboratively with other departments, in particular the ultrasound scan department
    Acts as a role model/ ambassador for the organisation and the nursing profession
    Ensure clinic outcomes are recorded and waiting list forms/referrals are processed in keeping with local procedures
    Education and Training
    Continually develop specialist knowledge, advanced practical skills and competence by regularly undertaking literature reviews, attending BSGE scientific meetings, adhering to current and changing BSGE requirements, and keeping up to date with RGOG guidelines and trends ensuring delivery of best evidence based practice
    Attend relevant courses/conferences/lectures to keep up to date with current best practice standards and recommendations, as required by the needs of the service/role and meet the Trust mandatory training requirements

    Be involved in the training of medical staff, general practitioners, community gynaecologists and qualified nurses in outpatient hysteroscopy and related procedures eg.

    Teach undergraduate medical and nursing students in the management of abnormal uterine bleeding
    Be actively involved in internal/external, formal/informal teaching for health care professionals, patients and their relatives/carers
    Perform clinical and non-clinical audit, patient satisfaction surveys and development of the service
    Be actively involved in looking for quality improvement projects pertaining to the PMB and OPH service
    Ensure nursing practice is in keeping with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code and the NHS values
    Receive and provide regular clinical supervision with and for other nursing staff using the reflective practice process
    Develop links and collaborate with other health care professionals to share good practice and innovations with colleagues locally, regionally and nationally
    Be fully conversant and compliant with all relevant Trust policies

    To participate in personal objective setting and review, including the creation of a personal development plan at annual performance review.

    Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
    Nursing degree
    Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

    Holistic Health Assessment / Physical Examination module
    Non medical prescriber (V300 qualification)
    Counselling module
    Diagnostic ultrasound qualification in gynaecology
    At least 5 years post registration experience in gynaecology at Band 5 and above in a ward / outpatient setting
    Experience of facilitating nursing and medical student learning
    Experience in delivering in-house training
    Managing clinical risk and incidents at department level
    Carrying out risk assessment
    Carrying out staff PDRs and professional development plan formation
    Sickness absence and performance management
    Complaints handling

    Experience and advanced clinical knowledge within Gynaecology
    Able to break bad news / poor prognosis with empathy
    Awareness of health and safety issues and management of them
    Able to produce written reports and articulate concerns regarding patient care / safety issues
    Computer literate
    Bi-manual examination
    Project management skills

    Evidence of adherence to the NMC Code
    Evidence of delivering person centred care
    Promoting peoples equality, diversity & rights
    To ensure actions contribute to quality
    Knowledge of the ageing process and related mental and physical health problems
    Knowledge of the individuals responsibility towards health and safety

    Involvement in a quality improvement project

    Ability to travel across sites when requested to do so.
