Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic Radiographer or Technologist, ideally with some experience in Nuclear Medicine, to join the current team.
Leeds Nuclear Medicine comprises of 6 gamma cameras across the 2 main hospital sites.St James University Hospital houses 4 GE gamma cameras, 3 of which have SPECT/CT capabilities, Leeds General Infirmary is home to a further 2 GE gamma cameras - 1 dedicated cardiac solid state camera and 1 SPECT/CT machine.
As one of the largest Nuclear Medicine departments in the country, the workload is varied and interesting.A wide range of Nuclear Medicine procedures are performed across both sites, including adults, paediatrics, hybrid imaging, stand-alone CT imaging, myocardial perfusion imaging and research studies.
A radiography degree, or relevant degree level qualification for technologist applicants, is essential for this post.The successful candidate would be required to rotate between the two sites in Leeds, St James Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.
Experience in Nuclear Medicine would be desirable, however full training will be given.Experience working with patients, in a hospital/care setting and knowledge of radiation regulations such as IRR and IRMER is also preferential .
The candidate will be expected to undertake training in IV cannulation and injecting radiopharmaceuticals, if not already competent to do so.
Leeds is a large, busy centre for Nuclear Medicine supporting patients across the region.You will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Nuclear Medicine imaging service, including quality assurance, clinical scanning, and injecting radiopharmaceuticals.
The main duties would involve ensuring patients have followed correct preparation for different scans, explanation of procedure, injecting a range of radiopharmaceuticals and associated medicines for specific tests, completing diagnostic imaging (static/dynamic/hybrid) and processing images in readiness for reporting.
The candidate would ideally have some paediatric experience but be willing to train in this area if not.Experience in myocardial perfusion scanning and associated pharmacological stress testing would be desirable but training will be available, if required.

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust provides tertiary and secondary care and covers a wide geographical area. Radiology Services are provided on several sites across Leeds.The post holder may be required to practice their skills at various sites across the trust, in order to provide and maintain a high quality patient focussed service.
The job holder will be a Technologist working as an autonomous practitioner undertaking a wide range of nuclear medicine examinations.
The job holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a high quality radiology service for patients, adhering to policies and procedures as specified by the Trust and Radiology Management Team.
The job holder is responsible for performing with the highest standard of patient care and technical practice in their clinical area whilst imaging patients and will adhere to the codes of conduct of behaviours of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals and department of Radiology.

Following entitlement will act in the role of Practitioner* in accordance with LTHT IR(ME)R Employers procedures and following departmental protocols to justify and authorise medical exposures
Ensure patients have given informed consent prior to nuclear medicine and where necessary advise them of the potential risks.
Apply a high level of manual dexterity in acquiring accurate, high quality diagnostic images, adapting standard technique when necessary.
Operate advanced software on specialist radiological equipment, requiring excellent hand-eye co-ordination and manual dexterity.
Recognise and identify radiographic abnormalities, following training and authorisation and using the appropriate scheme of work (Red Dot / Comments)
Responsible for the care, comfort and clinical well-being of the patient during the radiological examination. This includes the monitoring or administration of pre-prescribed oxygen under direct supervision
Liaison with safeguarding and external agencies when suspicion of patient in danger, for example, child protection team
Understand the emergency procedures in the departments worked in and responsibilities in a MAJAX
Degree in Radiography or relevant if Technologist
Experience in a hospital or care setting, ideally Radiology
Experience in Nuclear Medicine or another area of Radiology Knowledge of radiation and regulations associated with it in Nuclear Medicine Injecting/cannulation of patients
