    Job summary

    We are looking for an ambitious, self-motivated and committed Pharmacy Technician who is registered with the GPhC to join our current team working in our busy Radiopharmacy.

    You will work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team who make a real difference to patient care and clinical research by delivering a comprehensive service across the Trust. Radiopharmacy is located within the Nuclear Medicine Department in Bexley Wing, St James Hospital. It operates as an unlicensed aseptic dispensary under Section 10 exemption, managed by the named Accountable Pharmacist.

    Main duties of the job

    Pharmacy Preparative Services provide ready-to-administer injectable doses across a diverse range of patient needs. Preparation of Chemotherapy, intravenous injectable medicines including antibiotics, and Parenteral Nutrition occurs in our Aseptic Service, whilst our Radiopharmacy provide ready-to-use radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapy use.

    For the applicant possessing the right skills, knowledge, and ambition, this is a fantastic opportunity to lead the radiopharmacy technical team and collaborate across the wider Preparative Services departments. Previous experience in Aseptic/Preparative Services is essential and we will provide full in-house training through a structured training programme.

    This is a full time role with 06:30-14:30 working day. Weekend, bank holiday, and out of hours service will also be contractually required based within the Trust Aseptic Services

    Job responsibilities

    This is a varied role working within the Nuclear Medicine department which will see you completing many different tasks on a day to day basis. You will work with the Accountable Pharmacist and Site Lead Radiopharmacist, taking a strategic lead for service and workforce development, working closely with all areas not just in Pharmacy Preparative Services but across Medicines Management and Pharmacy Services (MMPS).

    The role will also involve:

    Leading on the training of all staff across the department, including local training (such as preparing aseptic products), supporting staff to complete GPhC accredited Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications and Science Manufacturing Technician course. These roles will also work closely with the MMPS Education & Training Team to support rotational student technicians and qualified technicians within Preparative Services.

    Lead on the management of the day to day workload liaising closely with the Specialist Radiopharmacy Technicians, deploying staff in to the most appropriate areas to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently

    Be responsible for ensuring the Radiopharmacy is fully functional and that the stringent cleaning and monitoring schedules are followed

    Lead on the development of our quality management system working closely with the Accountable Pharmacist and scientist workforce

    Lead on staff management issues ensuring local policies are adhered to.

    As the successful candidate you must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, be able to work on own initiative as well as working within a team.

  • BTEC in pharmaceutical science or NVQ level 3 in pharmacy services
