The
Sustainability Specialist role, within the
Environment and Town Planning team in reporting to the Sustainability Manager, is responsible for the implementation of high level processes related to environmental sustainability in order to ensure delivery of the programme's environmental sustainability commitments across the organisation and the supply chain.
This role will be responsible for the
implementation of Circular Economy (CE) across the company's programme to effectively deliver the key activities of the CE strategy and also providing technical assurance of the contractor environmental sustainability deliverables.
Accountabilities
- Provide advice to the delivery directorates and supply chain on the delivery of the company's environmental requirements
- Provide technical advice and solutions to various internal teams on circular economy practices
- Monitor the investigation and implementation of circular economy initiatives across the projects
- Develop networks internally to ensure that circular economy is embedded across the company
- Support with engagement with wider industry to keep abreast of industry developments e.g. Major Infrastructure-Resource Optimisation Group (MI-ROG)
- Review and assure BREEAM/CEEQUAL reports and other relevant documentation from the BREEAM/CEEQUAL assessors or contractors
- Support the development of the BREEAM/CEEQUAL preassessments as and when required
- Deputise the Sustainability Manager when required; and
- Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies, and procedures on EDI.
Key Requirements
- Experience of developing culture of sustainability throughout an organisation
- Experience in managing multidisciplinary engineering and environmental standards, activity on large complex major projects/ programmes within a complex infrastructure programme
- Experience of managing competing project, engineering and environmental demands, with cost and schedule implications
- Experience as a BREEAM assessor/BREEAM AP and/or CEEQUAL assessor/verifier would be useful
- Communication Skills including report preparation, presentation skills, explaining technical information to nontechnical stakeholders and communicating across different networks both internally and externally with wider industry stakeholders
- Organisation and Planning skills including working to time, cost and quality requirements
- IT skills in Microsoft Word and other Microsoft packages
