    About the role

    The main purpose of the job is to develop practical laboratory-based training modules related to downstream bioprocess operations and related analytical techniques. The role is part of the RESILIENCE UK Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Medicines Manufacturing which is a collaborative activity between the University of Birmingham, UCL, Heriot Watt and Teesside Universities. The post-holder will be expected to work with a RESILIENCE CoE technician responsible for upstream process development training programmes as well as interact with other technical staff involved in supporting MFL teaching programmes and facilities. The technical support will involve designing and implementing training courses for a wide range of individuals working in the industrial, academic, healthcare (NHS) sectors as well as secondary, higher, and further education institutions. . It will also involve the use of Virtual Reality (VR) technologies to support and enhance training delivery. This work will develop RESILIENCE into a self-sustaining initiative that will provide significant, long-term benefit and achieve its strategic objectives focussed on sustainable contribution to the national work force for medicines manufacturing. Delivery of the UCL RESILIENCE objectives is enabled by the new facilities available to us at UCL East and within the UCL East Manufacturing Futures Lab[ These include new outreach and engagement spaces, teaching wetlabs and the Management Education Suite where we will deliver some of our new MBI Training Programme modules [ This post is funded for 2 years in the first instance.

    About you

    The postholder should have experience working in a teaching and/or research laboratory and particular expertise in key downstream processing approaches, , filtration, centrifugation, chromatography etc. They should also have expertise in relevant analytical techniques such as molecular biology (PCR, RT-PCR), protein biochemistry (immunocytochemistry, immunoblotting, ELISA), and colorimetric cell staining techniques. They should also have significant technical experience in the design, operation and maintenance of related laboratory equipment and instruments; significant experience of laboratory (biological) safety management; and experience of management and training of others in the use of equipment they are responsible for.
