    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen with Ear Nose and Throat service in the aural care department.

    The vacancy provides an opportunity for a part time registered nurse to join the ENT service as a nurse specialist in aural care.

    The post holder will either be qualified in aural care holding the National Diploma in primary ear care, or will be supported to obtain the diploma.

    The post holder will have knowledge and experience of ENT conditions, conditions of the ear.

    The post requires the successful applicant to work independently managing their own case load of patients. They will become qualified in micro-suction, treating and managing ear conditions including mastoid cavity, otitis externa and various other acute and routine ear conditions.

    Main duties of the job

    This post is a part time band 6 role working on the Pinderfields and Dewsbury sites.

    The post holder will provide support to the band 7 CNS lead triaging referrals , managing the SOS emergency line.

    The post holder will have excellent communication and history taking skills. Prioritising and evaluating their workload based on the referral criteria of the service. Providing a physical examination of the ear.

    The successful applicant will be expected to work as an independent non medical prescriber within the are4a of practice for the CNS role. Taking responsibility for a range of drugs within the area of competence in accordance with the Mid Yorkshire teaching hospitals medicine management policy. Training will be provided.

    Job responsibilities

    Responsibility for adefined caseload of patients and will provide an effective and high qualitypatient-focused service that is sensitive to the needs of users and providers.

    Organises,prioritises and evaluates workload based on accepted referral criteria anddischarge criteria in line with operational protocols.

    Will provide clinical, social andpsychological support to their patient group using advanced communicationskills, education and health promotion to enable them to reach an optimum levelof independence and health.

    Will haveresponsibility for the delivery of specialist nursing skills within complexpathways and will be able to provide specialist advice and support to a definedcaseload and to other health care providers.

    Responsible for providingevidence based practice.

    Will have responsibilityfor leading identified and agreed aspects of the service, in the development ofcare systems, protocols and guidelines working as part of a multi-disciplinaryteam and developing excellent interdepartmentalrelationships with excellent communication with a focus on qualityimprovement.

    Will ensure costeffective use of all resources and appropriate governance management.

    Lead and promoteprogrammes of health education and health promotion relevant to service.

    Work within nationalpolicy frameworks relevant to the service and trust local guidance.

    Review, interpretand act upon diagnostic investigations and point of care testing which mayeffect, change to individual care plans, liaising with appropriate medicalstaff where necessary.

    Deal effectively andprofessionally with patient / service user issues collaborating with PALS asappropriate and take a proactive approach to resolving issues and learning fromcomplaints.

    To maintain accurateappropriate and concise patient records within agreed databases and electronicsystems.

    Contribute and lead the multi-professional approach in themanagement of patients/ carers within the specialist area in relation toongoing care needs.

    Act as a resourcefor specialist knowledge for clinical staff on wards/ departments.

    Ensure effectivemulti- disciplinary communication.

    Provide mentorshipand preceptorship as required to all staff in the team or students on placement.

    Ensure you workwithin an agreed divisional work plan.

    Responsible formanaging staffing capacity and service need for effective clinical cover in theabsence of the team leader.

    Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • First level (honours) degree/ equivalent qualifications/training and experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience of working within Ear Nose and throat speciality
  • Desirable
