Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in , 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Position Summary:The temporary part-time Camp Assistant works primarily with the Connect2TCC Coordinator and the Camp participants. As an Assistant, the position will help with the successful implementation of the summer camp activities. The Assistant will help with set-ups, general supervision of participants to make sure all camp participants are safely accounted for and act as a resource for assisting the camp presenters. This position reports to the Connect2TCC Portsmouth or Norfolk Camp Coordinator. Multiple positions are to be hired.

Functional Responsibilities:

Builds rapport with students, summer instructors, and project staff.

Monitors students' class engagement, progress, and locale.

Provides classroom assistance and monitoring for summer instructors.

Contributes to coordinating/facilitating summer workshops and activities.

Assists students in navigating the college campus.

Serves as a positive role model and mentor for students.

Maintains accurate records and submits corresponding reports to designated staff (attendance and participation records).

Assists the project in the preparation and conclusion of the summer program.

Participates in program staff meetings and training as required.

Maintains a high standard of professionalism in representing Tidewater Community College including confidentiality in all aspects of the position's responsibilities and adherence to policies, procedures, and other established guidelines.

Adheres to professional accountability and accepts responsibility for managing situations and problems.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Experience in working with students and/or disadvantaged student populations.

Experience assisting in group activities and/or facilitating activities

Good written and verbal communication skills

Good organization skills and attention to detail

Experience in a college environment as a student or employee
