    This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatrician. This post is available immediately, for a 6-month period.

    This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the General Paediatric team. The post will be based at the Leeds Children's Hospital at the Leeds General Infirmary. The successful applicant should hold accreditation in Paediatrics in the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. Applicants should have established skills in General Paediatrics. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST 2.1 To deliver care to patients with common paediatric illnesses at the Leeds Children's Hospital Out-patient clinics Supervision of patients Care of in-patients Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings 2.2 To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Children's Hospital. 2.3 To work with colleagues in general paediatrics to deliver acute ward services and providing support for junior doctors. 2.4 To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Children's Hospital. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department. 2.5 To contribute towards the Consultant led triage of acute GP referrals to the CAT unit, providing e-mail advice to GPs, triage of all elective referrals to the service and participating in the provision of community GP hubs. 2.6 Work with the safeguarding/child protection team and partners in other agencies to conduct safeguarding assessments.     Job responsibilities JOB DESCRIPTION Childrens CSU LOCUM CONSULTANT IN GENERAL PAEDIATRICS (with interest in secondary asthma)This post is a locum post for a period of 6 months 1. BACKGROUND This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatrician. This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the general paediatrics team. The post will be based at the Leeds Children's Hospital, based at the Leeds General Infirmary. We are looking for a new enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our existing group of consultants who are all highly motivated and committed to developing excellent services for patients. The expectations of all members of the multi-disciplinary team are high. The team consists of consultants with various specialist interests, including immunology and infectious diseases, respiratory, nephrology, eating disorders and secondary epilepsy. The role will include acute work in the Children's Assessment and Treatment unit (CAT) and on the Children's inpatient wards, as well as outpatient work in the form of general paediatric clinics. The role has a vast mixture of secondary and tertiary paediatrics supporting an extensive array of other tertiary specialists across Leeds Children's Hospital. Leeds Children's Hospital caters to every paediatric sub-specialty under one roof. It also has close links with the adult hospital, within the same building, which enables smooth transition of care from paediatrics to adults. The team is developing exciting new pathways to make the department more efficient, improve patient experience as well as providing an excellent experience to junior doctors in training. Over the years there has been a significant overhaul of the workforce and this has now resulted in the appointments of qualified advanced nurse practitioners, trainee ANPs, as well as specialty doctors, who complement the junior doctor workforce. 2. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST 3.1 General Training and Qualifications The appointee must hold accreditation in Paediatrics in the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Heath or equivalent, and have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) if currently in a training programme within the UK. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. Applicants must provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevant Royal College at the time of application, in order for their application to be progressed further. 3.2 Experience The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of general paediatrics. 3.3 Person specification See person specification document. 3.4 Clinical Audit The appointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the lead in the following: Mortality and morbidity meetings Clinical audit programmes Development and application of agreed clinical guidelines. This is to be included in allocated time in the individuals job plan as a supporting programmed activity. It would be expected that the time allocated for this would include attendance at the relevant departmental audit meeting(s) and that such attendance would be recorded (in accordance with the Trusts clinical audit policy). In the discharge of these responsibilities the candidate will be expected to maintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education. 4. TEACHING The Trust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and all Consultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme. The post-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised on a speciality or clinical area basis. The post-holder will be required to collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliver appropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with the NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds. The appointee will be expected, with colleagues to also contribute to the teaching of postgraduates. 5. JOB PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTS The job plan review will take place annually, normally with the Lead Clinician for General Paediatrics. The annual job plan review may result in a revised job plan. There may be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities, accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to change significantly within the area. 5.1 Proposed Job Plan The post consists of 10 PAs with 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activity (SPA).
