    The Barts Pharmacy Department are looking for a dynamic and energetic individual who is ambitious and forward-thinking with clinical experience in acute and emergency medicine to join our Pharmacy team at Whipps Cross University Hospital. The post holder will provide highly specialist and advanced clinical and professional pharmaceutical services to patients admitted to the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit and acute medicine with support to the Emergency Department to promote the optimised, safe and cost-effective use of medicines.

    You will be a core member of the pharmacy team and the Trust's acute and emergency care team, providing professional pharmaceutical governance, medicines safety, medicines information, medicines finance, education and training and medicines optimisation support to the team and the service's patients.

    Additionally, the successful candidate will play a key role in establishing a seamless 7-day working schedule, ensuring continuous pharmaceutical support and enhancing patient care. The goal is to develop a 7 day Pharmacy service across the acute and emergency areas and the post holder, along with other team members, would work towards supporting a flexible working pattern across 7 days. This would be negotiated with the post holder.

    Main duties of the job The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as the Highly Specialist Pharmacist for Emergency Medicine to deliver patient focused, quality care, based at Whipps Cross University Hospital.

    The pharmacist will provide highly specialist and advanced clinical and professional pharmaceutical services to patients admitted to the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit and acute medicine areas under the care of Barts Health NHS Trust to promote the optimised, safe and cost-effective use of medicines. You will be a core member of the Trust's emergency care team, providing professional pharmaceutical governance, medicines safety, medicines information, medicines finance, education and training and medicines optimisation support to the team and the service's patients.     • oSignificant experience post registration in a hospital based clinical post
    • oProven experience of good performance in previous posts
    • oPrevious evaluations or reviews of medicines
    • oExperience and knowledge of developing guidelines/protocols
    • oExperience of developing and reviewing patient group directions and shared care guidelines
    • oExperience of providing evaluated information on drug expenditure
    • oEvidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. pre-registration / foundation training pharmacists/other staff groups
    • oSuccessful experience of managing & leading projects
    • oExperience of providing prescribing advice
    Desirable
    • oExperience of working at interfaces of care
    • oExperience of working with electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) systems
    • oExperience of successfully managing staff, performing appraisals and giving feedback

    Knowledge Essential
    • oUnderstanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
    • oKnowledge of medicines management systems
    • oUp to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
    • oUnderstanding of stock control systems
    • oKnowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
    • oUnderstanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
    • oDemonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
    • oKnowledge of drug and therapeutics at Diploma level or equivalent
    Desirable
    • oKnowledge of interface issues relevant to the patient group
    • oKnowledge of risk management issues relevant to the patient group and root cause analysis
    Qualifications Essential
    • oMPharm or equivalent
    • oRegistered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
    • oDiploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
    • oIndependent prescribing qualification, or willing to work towards
    • oAccreditation on the RPS Advanced Specialist Curriculum, Advanced Pharmacy Framework or equivalent, or willing to work towards
    Desirable
    • oMSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
    Other Essential
    • oDBS - Enhanced check with a check of the barred lists required as patient facing and may interact with adults / children
    • oReliable with a good attendance record
    • oFlexibility with regards to working hours for late and early meetings
