Job description

  • Teach on modules at BA and MA level for German and Modern Languages
  • Participate fully in assessment and examination processes as appropriate, and provide effective and timely feedback to students
  • Supervise undergraduate dissertations where appropriate
  • Act as personal tutor to undergraduate students
  • Undertake administration for the department
  • Undertake research on their areas of expertise
The postholder will be responsible to the Head of Department.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria


  • Proven teaching and research expertise in modern German cultural studies
  • Proven ability in teaching German culture and language at undergraduate level
  • Ability to teach translation from and into German at undergraduate level
  • Excellent administrative and IT skills
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Native or near-native fluency in English and German
Desirable criteria


  • Teaching experience at postgraduate level
  • A commitment to community engagement, widening participation, and/or outreach activities, particularly in relation to ethnic minority experience and the promotion of diversity and inclusion
  • Administrative experience
