    Job summary

    The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination andmanagement of the Cardiology Research team at St Georges Hospital alongside another Band 7 Research Nurse.

    The post holder will work collaboratively with the Clinical Research Matron/Head of Research Nursing and wider multidisciplinary team in the management of a portfolio of clinical trials and be accountable for the achievement of local and national targets in relation to the service.

    The post holder will be involved in ensuring that any research undertaken safeguards the well-being of the patient and is conducted within Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for research. The post holder will have the skills to lead by example as an expert practitioner providing organisation and leadership to the multi-professional team and supporting thepatient throughout a clinical trial.

    The post holder will also be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patients advocate. The post holder must also be willing to move to different clinical specialties within the remit of their qualifications and where the need to do so is identified.

    Main duties of the job

    St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and experienced individual in the Cardiology Research Team within the Molecular & Clinical Sciences Research Institute (MCS) as a Senior Cardiology Research Nurse.

    This is an exciting opportunity with responsibility for the set-up, recruiting to, and co-ordinating early and late phase clinical trials, and the shared line management and training of research staff working in this portfolio.

    The key theme of research excellence in Cardiology is sudden death/inherited arrhythmias and sports cardiology. These are well represented and further enhanced by linked cardiac topics including heart failure, echo and pathology. The department participates in many trials, including NIHR portfolio work.

    Participation in high quality early and late phase trials is critically important for Cardiology to maintain its position as a leader in the Cardiology Research field worldwide and the successful candidate will be key to this. The successful candidate will work closely with Principal Investigators to establish and further develop Cardiovascular research.

    Key responsibilities of the post include the co-ordination and shared management of the Cardiology team and an agreed research portfolio. Central to this role is responsibility for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients participating in early/late phase clinical trials.

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Completed post graduate qualification in speciality or clinical research related field
  • Teaching & assessing qualification or equivalent relevant experience
  • Desirable

  • Completed Master's degree in the speciality or related field or willing to work towards

  • Experience of managing a complex clinical research workload at Band 6 or above
  • Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships
  • Experience of collaborating with other agencies
  • Evidence of successfully working with and contributing to a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of developing others through CPD / PDR / clinical supervision
  • Experience of formal/ informal teaching of patients and staff
  • Experience and evidence of using highly developed motivational and negotiation skills to affect change.
