    Job Title: Transport Manager
    Shifts: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm (must be flexible) every other Saturday 8am to 12 pm
    Salary: £45 to £55k dependent upon experience
    Location: Leicestershire
    Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

    Role Overview

    The overall management of a busy outbound transport operation to provide a comprehensive service to our customers and business. The Transport Manager should ensure that the department strives to drive down costs whilst focussing on the continual improvement of processes and procedures, in turn achieving optimum performance.

    Managing compliance within the Transport department of standard operating procedures, transport legislation, health and safety legislation and company policies and procedures.

    Effective management of the department's resources including office-based staff, drivers and approximately 35 HGV's.

    Key Responsibilities

    Transport Operations
    • Ensure the accurate and timely delivery of customers' orders to ensure the Positive Response.
    • The efficient and effective day to day running of the transport department, minimise the cost to the business by fully utilising all resources within the team and vehicles.
    • Monitor and report KPI's, lead the team to meet these.
    • Monitor the daily workload of the transport department and ensure work is processed accurately and within the deadlines agreed with production and customer services.
    • Work collaboratively with the Customer Service and Production Team and ensure communication is maintained.
    • Lead on continuous improvement and deliver required improvements for the transport department, including recruitment and staffing process and system development.
    • Promote best practice.
    • Report transport data as required and utilise to support effective service delivery.
    • Manage the transport department budget. Create and deliver a yearly transport delivery plan and support the business in the development and implementation of peak operational plans.
    • Be the main point of contact for the Transport Department/Fleet Insurance
    • Responsible for the leasing and procurement of the transport fleet and company vehicles.
    • Investigate accidents and disciplinary concerns, make suitable recommendations and take appropriate action.
    Compliance
    • Keep up to date with all relevant transport and driver related legislation and implement any changes as and when required. (Tachograph, VOSA etc)
    • Ensure the fleet of commercial vehicles are maintained in line with applicable standards and legislation.
    • Monitor and manage driver compliance with the WTD and ensure all shifts are recorded in a timely and accurate manner
    • Regularly review, monitor and manage compliance with standard operating procedures and company policies (i.e. grievance, disciplinary etc.
    People Management
    • Ensure all drivers and the transport team are fully trained to perform their duties.
    • Ensure the transport department is always resourced to maintain service delivery particularly during core and peak times.
    • Ensure that the flow of communication through the transport department is clear, timely and consistent.
    • Identify operational issues and offer training solutions to the transport department.
    • Conduct regular 121's and appraisals with the transport team and driver team meetings to develop, update and effectively manage the transport department.
    • Support the development of the transport team and drivers, implementing development and succession plans where appropriate.
    • Lead any recruitment initiatives to meet the needs of the business.
    • Promote and maintain a positive, helpful and efficient culture within the transport department to deliver a positive customer experience.
    • Demonstrate active Leadership qualities, i.e. motivate & inspire, lead by example, understand and overcome barriers to change
    • Manage the performance of the transport department including, training, KPI's, appraisals, reporting, and formal processes (discipline, grievance and performance)
    • Manage Absence for the transport department, accurately recording all absence, addressing absence concerns, completing return to work meetings and paperwork, identify and offer support, notify HR of any concerns and formal processes.
    Systems
    • Manage the effective use of the ERP system for delivery planning of customer orders.
    • Help drive through the integration of a new Paragon Transport Planning system in conjunction with the current ERP system.
    • Ensure the best use of available technology within the transport department.
    Health and Safety
    • You have a responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Order 1974 to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all staff under your control.
    • You must ensure that all staff are adequately trained for all the tasks you assign.
    • Update and maintain all transport departments Risk Assessments.
    • You must also ensure that refresher training is provided as required by legislation.
    • You should actively promote compliance with Health and Safety legislation, company policies/procedures and good practice.
    • You are personally responsible to address immediately any Health and Safety non-compliance that comes to your attention, and ensure all steps are taken to avoid a reoccurrence.
    Staff are required to undertake any other task that is deemed reasonable within their skill set

    Essential Requirements for the role
    • Must have National/International Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence Qualification (CPC)
    • Minimum of 5 years running a fleet of LGVs
    • Experience of bulk tipper work/tankers
    • Excellent Geographical knowledge of UK
    • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and best practice.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Strong leadership abilities with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
    • Proficient in using transportation management software and other relevant tools
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
    • Full UK Driving licence
    Desirable Knowledge for the role
    • Experience of integrating/using Paragon system.
