    Job Details

    There is a vacancy for a full time Consultant working into the Community Mental Health Team covering Consett (approx 42000), part of the Durham Locality. This vacancy has arisen following the retirement of the previous post holder. In total, there are 13 Adult Mental Health Consultant posts across the locality and the posts are supported by junior medical staff from the rotational training scheme in psychiatry, GP Registrars, F2 Doctors and Speciality Doctors.

    Main duties of the job

    The Consultant will be expected to provide committed, proactive and responsive clinical leadership working with other staff to provide an assessment and treatment service for those individuals suffering with Severe and Enduring mental illness in Consett Locality. As well as providing patient review clinics, the Consultant will also undertake joint reviews with other team members for complex, unstable and high risk individuals. They will be fully involved with the CPA process. They will attend team meetings and the leadership team meeting with Team Manager and Advanced Nurse Practitioner on a weekly basis. There is no inpatient commitment, but close liaison with In-patient Consultant colleagues is expected regarding individual service users if admitted to an in-patient bed. The team works within a Bio-Psycho-Social model. Day time on call 9am to 5pm is expected once a week and as part of it will be required to undertake Mental Health Act Assessments if happens while on call during day time. Patients are referred to the service directly from General Practitioners and other primary care mental health services. New patients are initially seen by the Access Service. Our Crisis Team manages access to in-patient services. The post holder will be expected to provide appropriate supervision to junior medical staff and non-medical prescribers within the team. The post holder will be expected to have familiarity with all important, relevant legislation affecting the AMH population.
